I'm looking into swaping my 5sp for an auto in my s13. Would the ECU that came stock still work with the swap?

Are the gears in the rearend the same in a 5sp and auto?

What's the gear ratio difference in a auto compared to a 5sp?

You will need an Auto Ecu, look in the classifieds section under Complete Part-Outs, a lot of people should have one.

Rear end gears should be the same, no worries.

The automatic trans should have longer gearing as its only a 4 speed (including OD) vs the 5 speed manual, so your engine may run a little higher in rpm @ cruising, hence the 1 mpg difference in gas mileage.

Anyone feel free to chime in to shed some light if I missed anything :mike

Awesome. Thank you.
Not too worried about gas mileage.
It's for my race car. ha.

Now, the lower section of the wiring harness would have to be changed as well right?

You could get a lower manual harness. As for me I just spliced 2 wires together near the passenger side fuse box, wired up the reverse lights, and connected the manual speed sensor, and my car hasn't had a problem since then. I didn't have an issue with the neutral key lock thing, so i don't know about that.

Heres the write-up I used when doing mine...

I may have missed something, but the article should correct me. Good luck!

Depending on where you are, I have everything but the ECU that you would need (transmission, shifter, driveshaft, etc). Its free, just some and get it.

This is weird though.

That is a bit far then.

Yes, 99.9% of S chassis owners want 5-spd. If this were an american muscle drag racing board, then I guess it'd be different.

Truthfully for you, it would be easier to trade cars (or sell yours and find an auto car). And your manual car would be worth more to most people seeking a 240.

I woulda traded my auto stuff for your 5 speed stuff straight up if we could knock it out in a weekend. But as it is, i'm still waiting for my auto to s*** itself before I swap anything >.>

^^ Agreed. I went through the same before I did mine, but had to wait about till it hit about 200,000 miles to do so...
