So, I have an opportunity to buy a parts truck for my recently acquired 1980 2wd 720. The parts truck is an '85 and has bad ball joints....possibly no title. What I want from it is mostly body parts...Gas cap lock, seats, maybe a nice looking bumper if it looks good, maybe the rims/tires, or some steering column parts like the cruise control/light switch arm.....just plain stuff from the wrecking yard.

Now, what I am asking you knowing folk is, without any more information than I have given (because that is what I have) how much stuff will I be able to use? Will it be worth my yard space? What should I pay for the parts I have listed and can they come from this 85? In fact, what IS compatible? I know the engines are not the same, but I know mine runs and I THINK the other does.....

Any ideas as to what I can use and wether or not it is a reasonable idea? Bear in mind I would like to build the 80, not the newer 85, and I am shooting for a mild custom based on showroom/useful.

Thanks

a 2wd drive 720 should be compatible to other 2wd 720's except in engine differences and cab/bed sizes.

My chilton manual is for hardbodys from 1980 to 1997. I am guessing the differences are minimal.

I think you mean to say that your manual is for Datsun/Nissan pickups from 1980-1997. A 'hardbody' is a D21 which is different from a 720. It came along in mid year 1986 and ran through 1997. Different beast than a 720. 720 parts are pretty much interchangable from 80-86.

ok.... so basically everything is interchangeable like IMH said the 720 is from 80 -86

there are only basic differences such as the warm air piping... cab sizes... and possibly a few vacuum lines... your best bet is to pick up said manual and go to town

you'll find everything you probably need off of this 85 for sure tho

Thanks. I may go for it. Both my manuals are for the full run 70-89. I figured they were pretty compatible, but the little things are where I was wondering. Thanks y'all.

I just have a Chiltons manny from Amazon. I usually get them for less than 5bucks shipped.

I really want a FSM of an 89 240sx, 84 720, smart car.

I have seen many a factory service manual on ebay....look here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...t_912

I haven't gotten one yet, but they are out there.

BTW, my parts truck was sold out from under me....damn dissolving relationships and co-owners.... Back to the wrecking yards with me.
