THanks to all for replying. Digging deeper into the problem, I discovered that Nissan Canada has a very brief list of phones that are compatible, and Nissan USA has a much more extensive list, including phones that are available in Canada. The USA site also has a link to phones that are being tested. I looked at the individual phones on the phone manufacturers' websites. Many of the phones are 2+ years old.
So I talked to the dealership, and they never thought there might be a problem with compatiblity. The cell phone companies claimed that there is 'cause Nissan is using old bluetooth technology. The salesman at nissan made some calls and found out this little gem: when it's time to upgrade your phone, make sure it is at least bluetooth 2.0 or the phone has a software upgrade from the provider.
So if you live in Edmonton AB, and you are having bluetooth issues, I found out that Jordie at Erickson is bluetooth knowledgeable. The sales guy told me when I get my new phone, if I have any problems with it, they will help me set up the phone and get everything operating properly. I've had the Versa for 6 months, and it's probably time to finally get the bluetooth up and operating. (Yeah, my old phone is really, really old-school.)
