Can anyone confirm that these two ATF are compatible with the Nissan Matic-J fluid? A bottle of the Castrol is less then $5.

Both say they are compatible in the sheets you linked to.

As to whether they are or aren't, I doubt that anybody here would be able to confirm that - one way or the other!

everything Ive heard is that the Nissan fluid is basically regular ATF with a little lubeguard red...

It should work ifne but Infiniti wont deal with it under warranty.. Most of the maxima guys switch to regular dextron fluid and its all good.

The JATCO technical note shows it's stick/slip/stick graph to be quite different from Dexron 111g ATF...........................more towards a Lubeguard BLACK additive......................like the new Toyota ATF it is more synthetic like Mobil Syn ATF.

THe dual lockup clutch is what you must protect.

Red has no friction [stick/slip] modifiers, whereas Black does therefore one must understand tribology of what you want to accomplish.

Generally you will find 5,6,7,8 speed AT need Black whereas 4AT need RED. Simple as all designs in the same gear span group are very very similiar.

On the Nissan 5 speed, no one has varied from OEM with good results.

One would need a knowledge like TexasOil has to even make an educated guess like Q45tech has. Not worth voiding the warranty, which use of non-OEM specified ATF will do.

All ATF is synthetic since there are no pools of ATF found naturally around world that you can dip a cup into.

Oh my god it's synthetic it must be better. What you want to known is the chemical desription of the base oil which makes up 80% of the product.

I use the Redline both in my 5 speed 300ZX transmission as well as the Q transmission, in both applications it stays clean forever and really makes the cars run like silk. Cost a little more and if you dump the entire 15 quarts it gets a little pricy but worth it since how often do you really get around to doing it.

Same here Redline D4 ATF replaced by performing multiple drain/fills every 25,000 miles{extreme overkill for this fluid as it comes out looking brand new} original transmission is smooth operating at 218,351 miles. 18 quarts of D4 atf is $147-180 , labor to do multiple drain/fills is free if you can unscrew a bolt and use a funnel....

I work at a local independent shop and we are a Valvoline dealer. We received some info regarding Mercon V being a suitable replacement for most all other ATF's, save for a few exceptions such as CVT's and the occasional German transmission.

Valvoline claimed that their research has shown Mercon V (which is the same product you linked to) is recommend to replace just about everything out there. My first thought was "I don't know about this." But, then again, most synthetic oil makers, Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc..., use a "one fluid fits all" approach to their product lines. Redline on the other hand has a couple of different fluids but they are still covering many different manufacturers with one fluid.

Right now I'm running regular Valvoline Dexron III w/ red Lube Gard in my Q. When I change it again I'm going to probably go with Amsoil ATF (we have an Amsoil dealer next door). I'm lucky to have an ATF exchange machine at work too. So fluid changes are easy!

In this thread you guys are talking about Matic-J substitutes with :Mobil synthetic and Redline D4 A

Will these products work for Y33 that uses Matic-D?

Redline D4 is intended to replace Dexron III/Mercon ATF. Most of the G50 owners on here run Dexron III instead of the Nissan ATF. But, for the G50 models Dexron III or Nissan ATF is specified. I thought Matic-D was the fluid used in the G50 but I can't remember (cause I don't use it). If that's true, the Y33 is the same.
