I was on the Lexus forum, which they do give a lot of respect over there to the Q45. I started a thread on the comparison of the F50 to the LS430 and it spawned an interesting question. So I will go ahead and ask it here.

What are the true years of the Q45 and what was Infiniti's equal in Japan. What features did Japan have for said year compared to here.

Year Made ---- USA ------------- Japan 89 - 93 = 93 - 96 = 97 - 98 = 99 - 01 = 02 - 06 =

Thank you guys for your help. Some one mentioned that the Q45 came in three different trims in Japan. One of the trims where very rear, more so then the President. I was just trying to figure out what that trim might be.

The Q45 in any shape, 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen has NEVER been made anywhere but Japan. I think the only Infiniti made in the US is that huge SUV, since it is based on the large truck platform.

The L430 was a great car, it was boring as hell inside and out, but I was never a fan of the exterior of the F50 myself. Now the LS460 on the other hand..........that was a sweet ride.

I think they also got HICAS and active suspension together.

The G50 was sold as both the President and the Q45 in Japan; the President was available in a long wheelbase variant that we missed out on. Y33 was the Cima, F50 was also the Cima (though the President name was resurrected as a Cima variant, the Q45 was closer to the Cima). Y33 and F50 Cimas offered VQ30DET in addition to the V8s we got here.

1.) Never happened.

2.) Never were any Y33 Cima, only FGY33, even when equipped with the 6 cylinder engine.

Your stinginess about the chassis designations is amusing considering that you're correcting with inaccuracy. The Y33 is the BASE chassis designation that encompasses ALL Y33s. And FGY33 is as much a Y33 as every other Y33. The FG is just more specific. It's still a Y33. Just like the Maxima was both HJ30 and PJ30. They're all J30s, and they're all Maximas. The HJ30 is not not a J30 just because it has an H. Those extra specifiers can be found for ALL Nissan model variants. We just rarely use them as it's pointless unless being very specific.

A green apple and a red apple are still both apples.

As for the HICAS/active thing, I had thought I'd seen that stated somewhere. Guess I was wrong.

Thanks guys. I really look forward to owning another Q45 soon. The time in very near. One thing I have been debating at this point is, between a nice all white or all black 99 and up or a 02 or 03. I would love to have all the new features of the F50, but I really like the body style of the Y33 better. Either or, I will very happy with one or the other. June is around the corner.

FGY33 has a more robust engine and transmission and VLSD.

F50 has a looser engine, lighter duty 5 speed, lots of electronic doo dads, and no VLSD.

Max in all honesty, which would you choose?

99-01 Q45 All White or Black or a 02-03 All White or Black?

I would go higher in year model, but its not in a realistic price range for at this time.

Service history and condition first over any color, year within a series, or model trim first.

I like the later FGY33 if in good condition. I would probably never own a 2002 F50. I prefer IPQ since I am in an area of high solar radiation (our car has a black interior). Black with the bone interior would be a distant second to many other colors.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but what is IPQ?

Ivory Pearl Quartz. It's one of the two three-step paints Infiniti uses.

I'd go for the first original President I see in CA and registered.
