Today I was at dealer and picked up the new Q45 oil filter part# 15208-55Y00.Since I still have the old style part# 15208-60U00 at home I decided to compare.

1) First looking at the package both are bi lingual except the old one is in English and japanese and the new one in french and japanese.2) The new one says made in USA, the old one made in Japan3) The new one has a long list of cars + engines its to be used for, does not yet reflect teh Q45 and the VH45DE4) The old one lists a much shorter group that includes the VH45DE as well as all the DET and DETT engines omitted on the new style filter list5)Contrary to some rumors, they have the exact same external dimensions in every respect.6)The old style filter come packaged in cellophane hermetically sealing it against the environment inside its box, the new one does not.7)they have identical number and size holes in the bottom of filter as well as inside filter.

I have not yet cut them open to investigate what further differences (if any) might exist.

Fred...:)

And Joe and I thought Dennis would be the first one to cut them open! I'm too cheap to do it - I just hoarded up 10 of the 60U00s :)

So when I Infiniti dealer was out of them and I wanted more I was thinking...Dont they use the 60U00 in the 300ZXTT and others too?So I went to a couple of Nissan dealers and lo' and behold they still had stock.

The first one had only 3 (I bought all 3) and the second one had 15 in stock (bought 3), so Collins Nissan parts still has 12 in stock of the 15218-60U00.

They said they ordered new ones but the other part number showed up 15218-55Y00.

I have a feeling there are a bunch of the 60U00 still at Nissan dealers all over.

Fred...:)

PS:On that trip I also got a good deal on 500 rounds of 5.56mm for my romanian AK, chambered in 5.56.:evilhaha

I noticed the same thing when I went to pick up the new filter on Saturday. I'm sure the parts guy dosen't like me anymore but I took him to task since it didn't show the VH45DE on the application chart anymore. Finally had to have him call the manager to explain it all as his not knowing what a VH45 was pretty much blew any chance of his convincing me on his own.

I don't have any of the old boxes to see what else was listed (other than the VG30DETT) but I must say I am a bit suprised that they are spec'ing the same filter for the tiny GA16 that they are for the VH45.

I'll be interested to see what the dissection yields.

Since I'm swapping out for a filter relocation unit, I'll be able to run the big Ford-style filters (extra capacity).

I still have 4 Nissan filters left over... :(

From what I've been told by a few peoeple, you will probably notice that the 55Y00 has less dense screening internally. I knew a old Nissan master tech years ago that told me the 60U00 filter is a lot richer of a filter. I have had a 1997 Nissan Pickup, that has always called for a 55Y00 but I have always used the 60U00 just because of that fact.

Hey Fred... had a chance to cut them open yet?? Pics would be cool too - maybe with some luck we could guilt Nissan into bringing back the 60U00 with a nice sidexside comparison!

Too many old Q engines lasting too long -- 250,000 miles. What can we do, I know says the junior engineer in Japanese.

"Lets substitute an American oil filter - works for Ford and GM.

They had the same discussion with Lexus concerning their 300,000 milee engines

So here's the obvious question... what filter will you be using when your stash of 60U00s run out?
