I thought pretty much the same about the first G35. To be honest, I wondered why on earth it had a Mt. Fuji on it instead of a chrome hamburger. Even compared to the contemporary Maxima it's luxury doesn't keep up, and the Maxima's a "mere Nissan."
The G is also inexcusably short on headroom. I had the opportunity to drive Greg' (AZhitman) G35 on a track a few years ago. Thanks to the combination of no headroom, sunroof, and necessity for a helmet, my 6'4'' tall head didn't come close to fitting. I had to recline so far back I could barely drive. I know I'm tall, but guys my height aren't exactly uncommon. The G's not an option for us on the headroom issue alone. And the non-height-adjustable passenger seat is even worse...my head brushed the ceiling even without a helmet on that side.
The newer G is MUCH classier inside than the original G35, though.

I absolutely agree. Not just for interior space, but for the feel larger cars have overall. The G and other cars in it's segment are WAY too small. They're TINY cars in my book. Granted, the newer G is more roomy and comes nowhere near being as uselessly small as the idiotic Lexus IS (in which the back seat bottom very nearly touches the front seatback if I have the driver seat comfortably adjusted!) but it is still far too small to be even a consideration for me.
