CompactFlash Slot Cover

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Finally starting to experiment with the CF application on our 2008 EX. Not having many problems, but something did come up that seems strange.

After you insert the CF card, is there not a cover for the slot? Maybe I can't figure it out, but I find it hard to believe that they designed this so that when a card is actually inserted, there is no way to protect the slot. Not to mention it looks unfinished as far as the dash goes.

Am i missing something?

can't you put the existing cover back after the CF card is inserted, or does the CF card obstruct the existing cover?

When the CF card is in the slot, the slot is filled, so it seems pretty much protected by the card itself. There aren't any metal contact pieces exposed, and I don't think much dust can get in the slot when the card is in it.

The slot I have is not really "filled" by the card. Yes, the actual contacts are covered by the card, but this just seems like it is not correct. Perhaps I'm just being finicky...without the card, the cover works and looks fine. Put the card in and you have a hole in the dash?

If that is the case, then a dremal tool on the existing cover is about to happen. I'll cut out the spacer on the back of the cover and then figure out (glue probably) attach it to the slot or card somehow.

This just can't be the way it is supposed to be.

you are not being finicky, i feel the same way about the cf slot. it just feels unrefined. the only difference between you and me is that you are willing to do something about it. let me know how it turns out.
