Compactflash (CF) Player

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi Everyone,
I just bought a 2008 EX35 AWD Journey with Nav. I have been playing with all the Tech stuff on it. Below the CD Disc Slot is a Flashcard slot. I cannot get the stereo to recognize my CF card which has MP3 music files on it. It tries to read it , then the screen tells me "Compact Flash Read Error." Can anyone help me Please. If it matters the CF card I am using is a Lexar Platinum II card.

Welcome!

Have you ruled out the CF card? (do they all give you an error?)

Thanks XIS.
Well it plays the files on my computer with no problems. I have read that the max files are equal to about a 2gb card and that is the limit for the player. (Owner's Manual, page 4-48) Mine is a 8gb card.I cannot see that making a different. although it might only show files to that limit if you know what I mean. It doesn't have that special cable that shows in the manual for connecting a iPod. I should be able to get one from the dealer. Maybe there is a converter to go from CF card to SD card that I could use?

Here are some info from my experience :

Card must need to be FAT32 formatted.
The reader can only pick up mp3 files that are 1 folder deep from the root directory.
The reader will stop showing entries after finding the 256th song.
Worked with my 16GB card with the conditions shown above.

See if that helps.

Thanks for to info. The file system is FAT32. what do you mean when you say "The reader can only pick up mp3 files that are 1 folder deep from the root directory?"

*I think* that's how it goes:

Recognized songs:
CF:/song.mp3
CF:/folder/song.mp3

Unrecognized songs:
CF:/music/artists1/song.mp3
CF:/music/artists2/album1/song.mp3

So anything beyond a /folder/folder/ structure won't get picked up by the reader...

Unrecognized songs:
CF:/music/artists1/song.mp3
Mine can see all the files in the subfolder of the second level. Didn't check more levels yet. HAve 2GB Sandisk card. Formatted as FAT. Works perfectly.

Cool! I've been wondering about using the CF card reader too. Can anyone explain or share (photo) what the user interface looks like when playing music off of the CF card? Does it show ID3 tag information, too, like when you're playing music from your ipod?

TIA,
Tim

Yes you get all the file name tags (granted they were are embed in the sound file to begin with) and the access is very similar to the iPod interface.
I use mine more than any other source (not counting XM radio) because how easy it is to add / remove songs and navigate the folders.

The sound quality is not bad either!

Hope it helps.

Richard-

Thanks very much for the quick response. Yeah, totally forgot about sound quality from a flash drive/card. Glad to hear it's not so bad, but hopefully this will resolve my problem of having to use my ipod which repeatedly has its battery drained if I forget to unplug the interface cable when I park the car. I just can't justify getting a new(er) ipod just because of this problem in one of my 3 cars (of course it's the one I spend the most time in...the EX)

Appreciate it!
Tim
