Compact Flash card - size limit?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the size of the card you can use? I got a 32 gig card, but the player only sees a small portion of what's on there.

thanks!

Welcome to NICO, Soundhound!

I haven't seen the maximum CF card size published anywhere, but if you look at the limits shown on p.4-48 of the Owner's Manual, I'm pretty much hitting the maximum files limit with a 2 GB card.

FYI, one member has reported successfully using an 8 GB card.

Thanks David, so glad I found this site!

I haven't been able to find any info at all from Infiniti! Seems odd, doesn't it somebody there has got to know, right?

I guess I should try a 16 gig card next, and if that doesn't work, go to an 8? Kind of an expensive way to go about it though.

I also heard from somewhere that there's some software to be downloaded that might make the flashcard system work better? Have you heard anything about that?

No - I hadn't heard that. What's the source?

The largest size that I have seen that has been problem free is 2gb, so I would suggest buying the 2gb and saving the money on the price of the CFC.

thanks sp! It's a 32 gig, and I'm not sure how much it's seeing. Maybe a few hundred songs? Sounds like I should try an 8 gigger for now?

How many songs and folders are on your 32 GB CF card?

I have read in other forums that there is a limit of 512 files and/or 255 folders. This sounds about right based on what people have been saying with the 2GB cards being about the limit.

If larger cards do indeed work (sounds like they do for some people) the only way you would get anything out of it is if you are listening to files that are much longer than typical music. Perhaps books as audio files or something like that. Otherwise sticking with 2GB saves money and is unfortunately about all you will get anyway.

Kind of annoying...I really like the concept of the CF slot and it just seems strange to limit it so.

512 files. Man, that's a lot more limited than what I was hoping for! Do you know where they got their info? I've been trying to find out from Inifiniti, but no one seems to know...

Not to be mean, but as I said in the very first answer to your post, 5:42 PM 1/7/2009, "look at the limits shown on p.4-48 of the Owner's Manual."

Having spent well over a decade as a systems developer, my guess is that this was implemented with a fixed-sized table in memory (instead of using a dynamic data structure), thereby imposing this restriction.

I agree that technologically, this is something of an oxymoron ... just more evidence that Infiniti doesn't have their best people working on the usability of their high-tech gadgets.

HTH,David
