Ok, so it's a bizarre thought, but I've owned 2 Subaru SVX, and have recently moved up to the Q45a, and see some similar traits.

Both appear to have Nissan transmissions (SVX comes from the Maxima's I think). Level 10 seem to be the experts for both.

Both have climate controls that require an explict push to see "ambient" or outside temps.

The steering wheel designs appear to be almost identical.

I'm just curious, but does anyone know if there is any sort of connection between the two?

Wouldn't surprise me if Subaru and Nissan use some of the same parts suppliers... I know Nissan has used Calsonic for HVAC parts for years...

Transmissions are made by Jatco, a joint venture between Ford and Nissan.

trans is the re4r03, almost identical between Q45 and SVX. search for some trans posts by both me and RobertsNewQ. also similar to Re4r01 at least the valve body is.....

is your active active? texasoil be the guru, mine is recently restored to active status.

I *think* the active is active. It raises to "high" but the ride is a lot stiffer than I expected.

Any easy way to tell??

I'll be getting the Infiniti dealer to give it a once over.

if the ride is stiff it's like 99+% that your accumulators are flat or soon to be. you will find this forum pushes you to an order of magnitude higher care for your car. but even with that aside, you want to fix your active as soon as possible. driving with it flat will complicate things later [multivalve unit in my case, even though i personally only put 100 miles on the car after purchase before restoring the active].

It'll get checked/fixed asap.

I bought the car expecting high maint. costs. The price to pay for a great ride.

Thanks for the advice.

current owner of a 90Q and previously owned a 92 SVX. Gotta be honest,,, really enjoyed owning the SVX,,,,was a great touring car! awesome in the bad weathe with it's AWD system ( had firestone sz-50's which helped). if i had to pick would defintely go with the Q for it's all out performance and comfort. i've heard the transmissions of the SVX were a problem spot,,,be interesting to see if it was the same trans as the nissan!!! so far,,,nothing compares to the Q when doing 50mph and stomping on the accelerator!!!!!! very few cars would keep up................

Based on the info here, it seems the gearbox is close to the same for both. Which is interesting, because the SVX forums think the transmission on the SVX can't handle the 240HP from the Hoz opposed flat 6 in the SVX.

An extra radiator for the transmission is recommended there.

Here we are with 280(300?) HP on the Q.

Heat is the killer for both models it seems, with 80-90K being the average life expectancy for the SVX transmission.

I enjoyed my SVX, but the extra doors are useful in the Q, both are great long distance cruisers.

Mine is a former Louisiana car without a transmission cooler and has 170,000 on it so far. Here's a thread I started to get real world mileage numbers from actual owners:

Almost the exact same trans unit, BUT the SVX has 4WS and a transfer case that add additional heat and stress to the box. Otherwise the same.

Also used behind 300zx turbos, Mazda MPVs and Isuzu NPR box trucks.

At one point, Nissan owned a minority share of Subaru.

Both Nissan and Subaru use the R200 diff and lots of other stuff.
