Hi, I have a 2001 QX4 that started running rough and the engine light came on. Codes were P0301 and P1140. The 1140 was for the cam sensor, which I replaced assuming that was causing the rough running. I cleared the codes and it runs exactly the same.

I just wanted to ask in case there are common causes for a P0301 because checking the fuel and even the spark requires removal of quite a bit of junk. Thanks all!

P0301 is usually a bad coil on the number 1 cylinder. Unfortunately, on an '01 the number 1 coil is different from the other five, so you can't do a swap and see if the bug moves.

P1140 generally doesn't cause a bad misfire.

What codes do you still have?

I only have the P0301. Glad you told me about the coil, I definitely would've tried it. Any other way to test instead of just replacing it?

Find a buddy with an '01 PF and swap. I think those coils were only used on the the '01, at least in the PF/Q
