I have no clue what James Cameron has to do with asteroid mining, but kudos on him for finding a good way to spend his money. Plus the star power will help sway public opinion (And monetary contributions)
With Google though, I expect FTL travel and Mars colonization by 2020 (Not really, but they have the capital to support this)
This is one of the few space related news stories to lessen the blow of the loss of the Shuttle Program and provide a little optimism about the future of this tiny ball we live on.

Well he's been doing a lot of this stuff lately. He did a visit to Marianas Tench also.

FTL travel (assuming you don't mean going to Florida) requires that we find a dense, stable fluid substance that surpasses mercury and a power source of unimaginable supply. We won't have that yet until we go to the asteroids.
