So ever since i fixed my main problem (failed injector in cyl#4) I've gotten a decent oil leak in that same cylinder. It was probably there for a while, just w/o the combustion in there i never noticed. Before i replaced that injector i did a slight rebuild on the engine using a cometic head gasket. I've heard lots of problems with its poor sealing ability, only instead of leaking out, it would be leaking only into #4.

If my compression is alright 155-160 across the board, could it still be a result of a leaky HG or are is it more likely to be the result of the valves?

My view oh head gaskets are this.

If the motor is untouched internally and not boosted use OEM. If the compression is changed by changing the bottom end, heads, or induction used what is recommended by a known engine builder.

Entirely new Fel-Pro gasket kit. I suppose i could have messed up the alignment of it while putting it on? I thought that valve cover gaskets prevent oil from getting out, not into the cylinders. Also, oil is not getting by the plugs.

Unfortunately at the time i was a little optimistic on boosting and figured it wouldn't hurt to overbuild in preparation.

Found a new symptom. At idle, not much smoke at all, tiny cloud every time the 4th fires, dissipates quickly. Revving means more smoke more steadily up the tach. Punching it causes a HUGE cloud.

What color smoke? Are you sure its oid and not coolant? It almost sounds like a bad gasket seal.

I've never been good at the whole identifying smoke thing. Smoke is pretty much a very light gray or a dirty white. Its got to be oil though, I pulled out the sparkplug and i could see a small bead of oil sitting in the middle. Enough to put a drop on the end of my socket extension.

Alright, end this thread, Take the car to a shop and have the engine pressure tested. That will prove to you if the head gasket is leaking. If it is smoking then there is definately a problem. Pressure test it, then go from there. No need for anymore posts. Get it pressure tested and then go from there. Just do it.

^Truth^

Better to spend the $20 or whatever and KNOW what the issue is. Mine was smoking as well (after I JUST changed the HG) and the shop called today to tell me that there's CO2 (exhaust) in my coolant. 2 weeks and hundreds of dollars down the drain...

i don't see any mention of the head being milled or checked for straightness. If this is a ka those numbers are damn near the minimum.Iirc 151 is the lowest minimum acceptable.

What motor is it?? If its an SR, your comp #'s are perfect...But if its a KA those numbers seem a little low...NA motors typically have higher compression than forced induction motors from the factory...
