Hello. Currently I have a '98 240sx LE AUTO... I have 2000$ to spend. At first i was going to save a little more and buy a BD stage 1 kit, cat-back and test pipe. So we are looking at about 2600$ before labor for installation.(I AM NO MECHANIC AND DONT TRY TO BE ONE)Now i am thinking maybe I should Get an auto-->manual swap. I was quoted about 1200$ i think, and then get kyb agx shocks, cause all i have is springs Thats about 1600$ before labor. So, which one should I do first???

I'm in the same situation as you. Before getting my turbo I will DEFINITELY get a manual transmission, better brakes

relax bro... he can think for himself, which is why he listed his options. He just wants the communities input on what we think would be a better option at this time.

No, your right...I just get frustrated with ridiculous polls and threads.

2sx40 - Build the car on your needs; don't just jump on the band wagon. What's more important to you as a driver? It's your car ...have fun with it.

manual swap will hold you over for a while until you have the urge to go to turbo or start suspension mods.

In all honesty... the way I look at it isdo you want a car thats fast?or a car thats fun to drive?

i love driving a 5 speed, only ONCE did I hate the fact it was a manual, and that was when I was stuck in traffic on a slight incline for 2 hrs during an 80 car pileup...I think my cars got plenty of kick and the KA's gotta nice rev sound stock, no need to muffle that with obnoxious exaust, Im not saying dont mod the car (I have a strait pipe exaust) but I'd hate driving my car if it wasnt a standard

...my .50 cents

i think it'd be better to get the manual swap first then learn how to drive your car with manual, then later you can turbo it

well do the manual swap... but no agx i had them and the blew all four corners in under a year with not alot of miles on them... i say do the auto manual then save for some better struts..... 1200 for auto manual swap **** we did a swap and the manual auto swap for that at my shop .... think that is a bit high.. and good thinking by knowing your not a mechanic saves alot of money by you not messing it up and then paying someone esle to do it

i almost did the auto - m/t swap last summer but was short on cash, but the guy wanted like 950bux for whole thing with new clutch also. too bad i blew the money on stupid stuffs now i really want to go M/T... and would this kit be better off for coilovers than kyb agx shocks + good springs setup? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW i e-mailed and asked a guy who bought that for his Lexus IS and he told me that its pretty decent for how much it is. but i dont know how long it'll last though.

Thanks a lot guys. Thats exactly the input I was looking for. Now as far a shocks go, if the agx arent good, what about tokico blues, or any others in the 500$ range. Or am i just not going to get any good long lasting shocks for that money?

You should go for alot better than KYB's.

Save a little of it (or invest in something with liquid returns) to use for after you swap to manual and have saved up for some nice suspension, like Tein or JIC. It may take a few months, but theres no doubt it'll be worth it later.

I voted for your suspension setup w/ manual just because you need a push in the right direction.
