one of my pet peeves this year that's really starting to become more and more noticed on a daily basis for me: Tow hooks on Hondas. I say hondas in general because I haven't really seen it really on any other makes... hell, the guys I KNOW that track their 240s don't even have tow hooks.

I don't know about you guys, but in Long Beach (CA), almost every modified honda I see nowadays has a damn tow hook. Like, just yesterday, I saw a frekkin 4 dr 02ish accord with with some purple rotas, a roof rack, and a damn tow hook (suspension looked untouched! it was still at stock height!).

Walking to class today, there were like 3 hondas I saw with rear tow hooks, 2 of which were really stock looking (besides carbon fiber hoods )

I dunno... maybe its just a rant i kinda wanted to get off my chest... but even if you track your car, a tow hook wouldn't be on top of my modifications list... at least not before suspension.

tow hook = ricer item of 2010? thoughts?

People will always have bad taste.

Hell, if I have money to throw around, I'll probably put some pointless s*** on my car too.

But I won't make it look ugly.....just pointless.

Just another reason why "modified" imports get a bad stereotype. Bleh....

Tow hook (stock or aftermarket) with tow marker (the red sticker) is mandatory for some of the events I take part in.

I live in Cali too and see the same *JDM tyte* Hondas. Those tow hooks are great when you have to parallel park, this way if somebody decides to bump your car the tow hook will pierce their bumper.

next time pics

You know what I don't like, unpainted carbon fiber hoods.

Kind of like a domestic v8 guy putting a 7000+ rpm cam in a motor that can't safely turn more than 5500, just for the lopey idle.

Well now you're getting into my territory of "upgrades to cars you dont track is a massive waste of money", because turbos, bigger injectors, aftermarket catback exhaust, etc are all not "mandatory on your grocery getter".

Are tow hooks and such stupid for cars that just drive on the street? Sure, but so is Silvia front ends, 180SX type-s tail lights, and well, just about everything done to the cars in 240gen.

S-chassis folks that rag on Honda boys is a huge case of pot calling the kettle black, because for quite some time now the 240SX has been the new Honda. And honestly, people that really track their cars dont make fun of Honda's because if you've been to an autocross, you'd see that the cars kicking everyone's asses are Honda's. CRX's, Civics and RSX's are very formidable vehicles, much more so than any S-chassis.

I hate ricers. I see them all the time on Hondas, but never on anything else. I mean it looks kinda cool, but it's completely useless if you don't track the car.

They just wanna make it easier for the cops and people that dont like their cars to drag their cars to the ocean and droop it in there.... after all hondas are drag cars right? get it drag cars. K now its time to go kill my self.

I wasn't questioning the purpose of tow hooks. I'm questioning the fad behind the rainbow colored anodized tow hooks (esp when stock tow hooks should suffice in any event that doesn't require a roll cage).

its the whole "look at me, i'm a road racer on the streets" look I guess

yeah, I'm sure all the 4 door accords were kickin asss in scca. The tow hook will definitely help pull them out of cones. Or maybe they can get yanked out by their itemless roof racks

/begin rant

im so glad someone brought this up. i can't stand tow hooks on any cars, but ive only seen them on hondas so im aiming it at them. i think its retarded. everytime i see one i just want to hang a tag or a sticker from it that says its gay. i just dont particularly like how alot of honda people tune or add parts into thier cars. its like they want everyone else to know they drive a honda. yes, i get it, you will drive a fwd fart can blaring car that the deepest part of making it go faster will be the spectre air filter that you picked up at autozone on a special sale for 14.99. i understand "dont only hate on honda's cuz its the same with every car especially the 240." or "thats what makes the car community so different that people do what you wont so were not all the same" i know already. i hate/diss/dislike what they do too and ill tell um straight up. i just see more (in my eyes) pointless and stupid parts being plastered over on hondas. so i have a right to hate on hondas and im using it at this point in time.

DISCLAIMER:If you own a honda on this forum and are taking offense to this. dont, unless i have met you and know who you are and how you act and dont talk to you anymore. ill give everyone the opportunity to show me thier not a typical "tuner/ricer". im only aiming this rant at people i know and or met and have thought this.

LMAO, This sure made me laugh because its true. I am from Long Beach but currently in San Diego.

I actually drive down Anaheim/Atlantic/Cherry and sometime LB Blvd. You do see a lot of Honda/Acura with roof rack and tow hook but there are a few that are really nice looking and fast. My brother before he sold his car had a 99 Forest Green Civic Hatch with a B18c1 engine, full suspension done and fully tune. That thing was quick.

Statement of the day here.

I like how almost all 240 owners are high and mighty and feel they are superior to ANY Honda owner.

Like their 15 year economy car is actually better than someone else's 15 year old economy car, just because it's rwd. s***, give me a break.

For about every 10 240s I see around, MAYBE 1 I would be happy to call my own, they're all beat to s***.

Well, I'm guilty I guess but mine gets used. I frequently forget (or are too lazy to remove) the front tow hook off my Z when I load it onto my car carrier (for trips to/from the track) I hook the winch to it as a backup for the other restraints. I agree though, it doesn;t look attractive.
