Ok So i'm trying to decide between s15t-28 and Gt2871R for my redtop. I know it's a no brainer. but I just need some facts and opinions on it cause the price difference. Kinda hurtin for cash but either way i'm just wanting to know what people have hit on a s15 t28 safely. and GT2871R pro's and con's all info. Just doin my research guys I have z32 maf, freddy mani. and will be putting this turbo on stock manifoldThanksChris

T28 BB will run 18 psi I think and youll probably max out at 250 horse or 300. The GT2871R is god for 500. There is your difference.

those numbers arent really correct.... t25's are known for reaching 250 rwhp at 15psi... s14 t28's are known for about 300 max at 18psi....and s15 t28's are known for 320 max at 18psi....

and gt2871r at 500hp? seems kinda high.. more like mid 400

500 crank is the max for a GT28T28 off S15 maybe 320 but still its pushing the turbo more.

.86 is 440hp (at least that what is stamped on the turbo).64 is either 360hp or 380hp i don't remember which.

those ratings are with other supporting mods as well.I have the gt2871r .86 and it rocks. There are no down sides.

but its not a .64 anymore.

"With that slightly later spool you probably made some power from opening up the turbine volute area - so in effect you really don't have a 0.64 A/R T2 housing anymore. "

bingo.

I would say the only downside is the price difference.

My main goal is to get around 300 whp out of it on a safe tune. I'm currently at 280 whp with 9psi on my turbo. So anywhere from 280-300 is what i would like to see out of the new setup. I just think that much power on the s15 t28 would be a little too much stress on it for my liking. I have stock internals but I think I could get 300whp with eas out of the 2871R. current setup is freddy im, stock internals and injectors, z32 maf and fuel filter, precision fmic, that's about all that matters and I would much rather go with the T28 simply cuase of how much cheaper they are than the 2871R but You guys think it's worth it if i'm wanting at least 280? pro's and con's of each? With stock injectors. I just don't want to be maxing out the turbo all the time. Any ideas, I'm gonna be making a decision this week on the turbo. I can't decide between the 2 at all ahhhh someone help me decide. I hate decisions... thanks for the help. Chris

I'd go with the gt2871r. Simply because you will always want to upgrade. Really, all of you guys, do you ever just stop upgrading? I know that there is a big price difference between the two, but the t28 is going to eventually run out of juice and then you'll say " man i wish i'd gone with the 2871." In turn you'll pay 1.5 times. The gt2871r is a very good turbo because its still good for low boost and can support your high boost that every one of us wants. Bottom line.... The gt28 you can still run on your stock motor as long as you watch your boost. When ever you upgrade your fuel, ecu,hg ...ect, you will have the turbo that you will be able to crank up alot higher that a t-28.

I say yes. do you have a AFR gauge (wideband only) some type of fuel computer? 550's is all we run down here and have had no problems.

I got a SAFC II and I'm saving for a AEM Wideband. I already got my ECU tunned for 550's but I've been having problems with it (which is why I got the SAFCII) so I put it back to stock. Anyways, thanksNo more thread jack now!

i wouldnt do either with stock injectors. you have all the other pre-requisites for a bigger turbo so why skimp on the injectors? if you got the s15- t28, let alone the gt2871r, youre gonna be maxing the crap outta the stock injectors unless youre running some low *** boost. and in that case id say just hold off until you can do it right.

also, are you running the stock fuel pump?

Actually no Ive only blown up a Ka24E motor but I did that on purpose. And you agreed that the GT2871R would make 420 whp. What is that at the crank? Drive train loss is about 50 horse. 470 at the crank is pretty close to the 500 I was saying. So please keep your comments to your self.
