Does anyone know about ionizing FMIC to change colors, and anyone that does it?

I beleive anodizing uses electrolysis to bond the color/dye to the metal.....One word: EXSPENSIVE......powder coating would be cheaper and more common but that isn't that much cheaper I think....

anodizing puts a thin layer but it's still basically aluminum and will transfer heat pretty damn easily. powder coating it...why bother having an intercooler at all?

i hear spray paint is cheap.

why are you considering coloring your intercooler? is it for that "stealth" factor?

Out of site, out of mind. I dont know about you guys but that shiny metalic silver IC can sure grab someones attention. Any cheap ghetto methods of hiding that core without leaving it useless and pockets empty?

There is a black radiator paint that comes in a rattle can. I think JCwhitney or those type of places have it. Your local parts store may also have it. Should only be like 5-10 bucks. It still transfers heat just as well and hides it nicely within the stock bumper. Any aftermarket bumper though and it won't matter what you do. A trained eye can always tell anyway.

hmm 10 bucks you say? and it still dissperses heat well. damn, might as well spray some on and go to school without any worries.

Yeah, I want that stealth look, because I would like it to remain a sleeper. I tend to attract cops so I'm trying to hide as much as possible. If not I'll just stick to the SMIC. Who here has dont that paint in the can, does it really work?

No offense, but the last time I checked, you cant get pulled over for having a front mount. Anodizing is pretty expensive. The paint can't be bad. Of course it is going to affect heat transfer a little bit, but not enough to make a differance. If it was me, I would get the front mount and leave it unpainted. But if you really want to be all sleeper like, then get the front mount and spray paint it. A spray painted front mount is always going to be more efficient than a side-mount. A side mount is relatively useless after like 7-9 psi and if that is all you are running(that is unless you have a V-8) there would be no reason to try and be sleeper because you are still going to get beat by most sports cars out there.

Just do what I did

The intercooler is way too big to do a V-mount, So I'm debating on keeping it or not.

keep your eye out on ebay you see the occasional GTR intercooler. We just used a thin coat of flat black on my friends intercooler and it came out pretty good.

Found them. Jesse SR20''s FMIC intercooler pics

Heres the thread they are from zerothread?id=112410

Personally, I run an S15 sidemount which DOES allow me to turn up the boost to 14-15 if I want. ARC, HKS, a few other companies also make upgraded sidemounts.

There are many options to you available whichever way you choose to go about it..

That's funny that you remembered my car.

It looks all junky with that beat up bumper on there. But that's a good thing. I've never been challenged, not once.

What is the stock Intercooler piping size for the SR? and when you guys buy an intercooler and/or kit, is it the same piping size?

I believe the stock piping is 2". Well, the hot pipe is anyways.

Most aftermarket hot pipes are 2 1/4 ".(Greddy isn't, they stay with 2") But it keeps increasing as it goes down the line on aftermarket intercooler piping.

For example, here's my set up.Hot pipe - 2 1/4 "Left side intercooler elbow - 2 1/2"Inter cooler inltet/outlet - 3" (I think)

The stock turbo outlet is 2 ". So that's a total of 3 transition silicon couplers.

I don't understand how the pipe size transition affects performance. What does all that do? I'm also not sure what the hot pipe is but If I were to guess, it is the pipe between the intake side of the turbo and the intercooler? also what is the left side intercooler elbow?

Thanks Dori Dori. Can anyone lead me to the direction of how the piping size effects your performance?
