I'm having a lot of dificulty getting anybody to paint my stache.I don't think I'm anywhere nearly qualified to do a good job of it myself.

Every body shop I go to says they will put on my aftermarket parts, but theywont take my stache of, sand it and paint it because they don't want towarranty it if the paint flakes off. They don't want to be responsible.

I've tried 5 bodyshops already. I'm getting discouraged.

They even looked for replacement staches that haven't been painted yetbut can't find them.

How the @#$# am I supposed to get this color matched?

Maybe you should pop them off and sand them yourself, then take them to a body shop and tell them to prime, paint and clear it. I don't see why a body shop would put up a fuss about those two tiny little things...

Im with him. My shop didn't complain a bit though *shrug*, they were going to be more than happy to do it. But wanted a lot to make the Nissan lettering red. So I opted to do it myself *shrug*. Just scuff em up really good and prime them, then see if theyll take care of it. Tell them you got some pre-primed :P

I've never sanded or prepped anything on a car before so I'm not sure I'd do it right.

I guess I just get some sand paper and sand it until the chrome is gone? Can I screw it up?

Use a fine grit paper, and stop when the chrome is gone. You cant really screw it up... scuff it and post pics here and we will tell you if you did enough!

The easiest ways to screw it up would be to snap a clip off, somehow brake the whole thing, or knock a corner or something off by sanding it too much. If you sand each piece little by little untill the chrome is gone, you'll be fine. Make sure all of the chrome is gone and that it gets a good coat of primer. If that doesn't get done right, the paint may chip off if something hits it.

Hey Moderators !!!!!

There was a thread showing the proper removal of the mustache. It shouldbe added to the Sticky for How To's.

I'll look for it, haven't found it yet, but if I do, or anyone else, it definately should be there.

I thought I'd take them out myself, sand them, and go get them sprayed.....

Guess Not!!! Every shop I go to wont do it for under $175...thats justfor the paint.

It's like $350 to have them do it all.

I was hoping for more like $75 for just paint.

Why doesn't someone make just the chrome pieces by themselves? It would be so cool to be able to buy them in whatever color you wanted.

They only come attached to the grill, so if you @#$# one up, you have to buy a wholenew grill, can't just buy the piece.

Ya, I had mine painted about 2 months ago and it's chipped in two places. They warned me when I had it done, but I just wanted it as a temporary solution while I figured out a way to eliminate the honeycomb grille. So take into account that you're paying a lot and there's not really a way to keep the paint on there... maybe some 3m tape would work well...

Did they sand it down and prep it first? The first place I went said exactly what happened to you would happen to me. The second place said they'd do it for $60 and they would guarantee the work... I want to do it this week, but will wait to hear from some of you guys...

They did, it's a very reputable shop, they do a lot of restoring of classic cars, custom paint jobs, they keep everything immaculate and know their business very well.

It's just the position and how hard the plastic is, if you can get someone to guarantee it, go for it.
