So I was looking at these wheels on a wrx that rolls around in Houston and I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to accomplish this type of finish on a wheel. These are Jlines and from what I understand you can pretty much order any color you want from them.

Normally I'd just say paint or powder coating but seeing as this has a sort of transparent finish I have no idea.

I've seen this finish on other stuff and I know Por-15 offers this colorchrome stuff that works for this type of thing though they only offer 7 colors (Laser Blue, Morning Sun, Dragon Scale Green, Purple Passion, Afterburner Orange, Electric Plum, and Chilli Pepper Red) none of which are this finish.

Any ideas?¿

That looks to me like the center piece was polished, then purple annodized, and had a clear urethane or powdercoat applied.

The problem with any kind of paint is that it will chip easily. I don't know if a clear powdercoat can be applied over paint to protect it.

when applied correctly, paint isn't that easy to chip. scratch, yes. but not chip.

On J-Line's website the actual finsih is just called 'colored chrome'. You might want to contact them to get some more info on what goes into this process.

Ive seen some candy green colored chrome wheels and I fell in love. Thats definately the finsih I would get if I was custom ordering some baller wheels.

I emailed J-Line about the process but it didn't tell me all that much..."We actually do not disclose our color chroming process. I do hope you understand.Just to let you know, it is not paint.Thank you,Stan ChenSales & Marketing ManagerJLine Wheels"

They only give a 3 month warranty on that finish though so I'm not so sure about it.

I thought about giving AME wheels an email as their Cirlar Spec-R's seemed to have a similar process but upon closer inspection http://www.mynismo.com/images_products/5542.jpg it would seem they just go with some sort of paint route.

Ahh well...the search continues.

that could be anodized, but tiger drylac sells transparent powders that would give the same effect painted over a polished finish.

they sell 5lb packs for $70-110, which should be enough for 1 set

how about glow in the dark wheels

Thanks for the info (& the links) drifteador. I'll have to look into that. After searching around for a while I've determined those J-Lines have to be Anodized when I saw these boyd Coddington wheels

and they stated these were anodized...funny how J-line keeps it top secret and boyd coddington has no problem revealing it and boyd's kind of a jerk.

I'd love to see someone do the glow in the dark treatment just not on my car
