just started doing it for my son. 2 down, 8 to go.

Yesterday was Drexel in Philadelphia. I was pleasantly surprised (well except for the prices which were not as pleasant... :chuckle: ). It's a city school but extremely nice. It actually borders on the U of Pennsylvania which I didn't realize. We had gotten a personalized tour, which was great.
After the tour, we headed to 9th and Passyunk for a long overdue Pat's Cheezesteak (mmmm-- burp). While eating there, there were no fewer than 3 Fiat 500's parked there. One had the roll down roof, kinda nice.

the other school toured was Shippensburg U.(my wife's alma mater) My wife and son made that trip without me but I might still get to see it as we have friends in that area.

Nope. Great school but a bit too far away for us.

What school is nala attending, again? Maybe your son would be a positive influence on him.

By which I mean maybe your son can find him and kick him in the Balzac. Which would be a positive influence on evolution.

Can't consider Lafayette. I went to Lehigh. :bigthumb:

DJ Creepy attends Hartford, whose rankings probably slipped when they accepted him. My son has read Nala's threads, and has zero interest in ever meeting him.

I heard RISD was pretty good for graphic design.

And there's always Columbia or the College of the Art Institute of Chicago. Excuse for you and the missus to come up here and spend time with the Chi-land Learned'd crew.

I believe RISD is on his list, but Columbia (also a good school) is not. I know we're going to visit Pratt (in Brooklyn) in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, Chicago is too far away for him to consider. I have family in the Chicago area, so I'm sure we'll be out there eventually.

Almost everyone I know that went there says that school is just full of druggies. Let me know if you check it out though. I might be in the area.

There is one program offered we;re looking at that begins at a local community college and transfers directly into Temple University in Philly. But my preference would be for him to live at the college he attends.

Actually thought about PSU too (2 family members went there and both loved it), just not a good curriculum match for what he's after.

That's why I asked about Carnegie Mellon, they've arguably got the best graphic design program in the country. If I had my choice of schools it would be number one, followed by VCU & Corcoran.

But then there's this...

The "right now" part makes it good to have a school that has some other offerings...just in case. :)

When you end up at RISD, drop me a line. I don't live far from there and could meet you two for a quick bite.

The school does have its fair share of drug use (what school doesn't?), but its more the "vibe" of the place. Its very hipster/bohemian and a good portion of the students are just weird, lost individuals spending a ton of their 'rents cash exploring the landscape in search of truth, love, used sweaters, crappy food, and drugs.

Dunno how it is now, but RISD was nearly impossible to get into when I was in school. As for the "vibe" I think they hang out on Thayer St to see who can be more weird.

^ Thats pretty representative. There are some very interesting techniques of panhandling from those kids. I've also been sitting at my old apartment looking at this shirt that was being run over again and again in the middle of Wickenden and Hope intersection only to have one of the kids (from the 10+ residents of this bohemian community house) walk past it with the group, turn around, snatch it up, put it on, wear it down the street and proudly proclaim that hes got a new shirt; not jokingly.

The cheese steak pics arent loading :)

Is the 500 vert out yet or was it preproduction?

As for the colleges, check the CR Buyers Guide. I think they gave Drexel a solid red circle overall for having the best central air conditioning and nicest toilet seats.

Probably a good thing. The sight of me eating a Pat's Steak is not pretty.
Jesda wrote:

It's production but it's not a traditonal vert. It has solid pillars and just the back part of the roof peels back.

LOL. Actually both those items are key for post-Pat's Steak dumps. (not as bad as post Taco Bell ones). In hindsight, we probably should have had lunch at Pat's then the campus tour. But I must give Drexel an above average rating for tour staff. Some real hotties. :dblthumb:

just got back from two more trips. College shopping is way fun.
Yesterday was LaSalle University (in Philly). Really Nice school. I liked the campus/facilities. My only real concern was the location. Pretty ugly neighborhoods surround it.

And today was Kutztown University (out toward Reading PA) I thought it was awesome, (my favorite thus far) and not just because of the very reasonable tuition, but every aspect seemed top shelf and it's located in a pleasant little town. Having a hot tour guide did not sway my opinion. It really was an impressive school.

Anyone here go to or know someone that attends these schools?

kutztown is about the same as all the state schools as far as prestige... my gf attends ship and hates it there; im finishing up at York College, which is regionally terrific for business and nursing. IDK about graphic design but my one buddy Dizel01 on here graduated from york with a degree in graphic design.

While i hate York because i live here (aka no campus life for me) it is a really good school. and rather affordable for a private school (although becoming less so each year)

My wife is a Ship alum, and she said enjoyed it but that was....uh... many moons ago. I'll have to check out York. Thanks. :dblthumb:
