Hi,Has anyone been successful in securing COLLECTOR,CAR,INSURANCE ? I have tried http://www.grundy.comTheir web site allowed me to get an automated quote on my 1991 Nissan 240sx. When I called the folks at Grundy. They told me that the "underwriters" weren't interested in that vehicle? I only plan to drive the vehicle to the local Nissan Club meets here in Orlando.

I tried Hagerty Insurance for specialty cars. http://www.hagerty.com/vehicle...lue19Their auto quote read as follows "Vehicles built in 1984 and after that are valued under $20000 do not normally qualify for our program. If you feel this car deserves special consideration please give us a call at 800-922-4050

My local State Farm agent is charging me $756 for uninsured motorist, personal injury, and $300,000 liability.

Has anyone else tried to pursue this "specialty Insurance" for Collector Cars?

Thanks,Bob Fagan

Bob - I have had collector car insurance on three vehicles (49 Olds, 68 GranSport, 70 Ghia).

I hate to break it to you, but a 240 ain't a collector car. It doesn't qualify as a classic until it's 20 years old, and it'll NEVER be categorized as a collector's item - They made too many of them.

If you only drive it to meets, I'd check on "one trip" policies and drop your other coverage. Or rent a trailer to take it to shows. Or advise your agent that the car only gets used for PLEASURE US and sees under 3K miles per year - They have a special rate for those cars. (You must have another car that sees regular duty and is covered accordingly). If your agent won't do it, change companies. Liberty Mutual gives us the "pleasure" rate on our Suburban.

Bottom line - If you drive it, you gotta insure it.

What he said!;) I just droped my coverage on my 74 Vette.(cause I sold it :( .)I had the 3k per year deal but I had to have my car appraised at the dollar amount of coverage.I've had my insurance company for like 10 years(home and auto) so they hook me up.Good Luck!;)

Both Jezter and Hitman are right on the money. You have a $2500 car that's still depreciating and is not collectible. And probably won't be anytime soon.

If you try to establish a higher "fixed" value with your insurance company, which is common with collectible policies, all you're going to do is raise your own premiums. I don't know about you, but I'd prefer paying less in policy payments, not more. The only coverage I have on my S13 is liability, fire and theft. No comp or collision. Very inexpensive.

Hey,I know the difference between a collector car and a commoncar. My 1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee 6 pack is a Collector car. It's just frustrating knowing that I'm going to drive a car(91 S13)less than 3000 miles a year.I'm going to pay the same insurance as a guy that drives 50,000 a year. Thanks,Bob Fagan

Well, a 1991 S-13 should be pretty dang cheap to insure for everyday use, regardless of the mileage, unless you have a bad driving record or are a kid. But there are policies out there thatoffer discounts for low mileage, you just have to shop for them

What kind of insurance policy do you have on your '69 dodge?

Back in the day when I was 21 and had many many many pages of tickets on my record,I was paying about $300 a month for full coverage on my 91 300zx.It sucked real bad.Now I only pay about $500 every 6 months for full coverage both the Altima and Spec V.:D
