Same thing happens to me. I was just going to make a thread about it. Today, coming home from work, it was 30F. After the car warmed up, the only way I could describe is that the road was made of velour and the tires were velvet. It was SO SMOOTH! The transmission performed wonderfully, the suspension was so good. I couldn't feel any bumps, but when I took a curve at 60 MPH, it held the road so nicely. Why does that happen? The car feels better when it's cold out.

My question from a different thread. Didn't get answered, so I decided not to push it lest I get accused of thread jacking.

Bump.

What is this? I guess I don't deserve an answer?

*Waits for Brian's smarmy answer.*

This post has about the same question, but still no answer. zerothread?id=133242

You got lucky?

My Q seems to run like a bat out of hell when its warmed up and cold, but it HATES starting up when its cold... Its saying "Wes I was perfectly find hibernating, let me REST!" but once she warms up for a few mins she's like, "OK FINE lets go..."

When owners do not maintain the items to keep things cool in hot weather, cool weather will keep them cool. Even the worst radiator probably wont have the car overheat in 40F weather.

In the summer, the Q ran fine. Ice cold A/C, no overheating problems. Just the rough idle from the bad injector.

The car acts "sleepy" when the engine's cold, but as soon as it warms up to OT, the car feels like brand new. I was just wondering what the cause of that was.

This is an old car. Weird things happen, i dont really think theres a single "cause" but mainly a combination of things, that I couldnt even begin to dissect.

Every Q owner must know what to consider irrelevant.

Hm. I wish it would just stay like that all the time. I'd never been happier.

Actually, mine and some others behave the opposite. Mine is quick and strong before it warms up and then seems to get sluggish. Dunno. I chalk it up to the rich fuel mixture on warmup, but then you guys get the opposite.

Dunno. It's probably in the intake path - we all neglect it, since it takes a manual cleaning to do it right.

Well, not all of us. It takes a special bath to clean completely, and some special attention to a couple of areas.

Mine runs and starts well either hot or cold. Only difference is air density. Any other operational abnormalities due to temperature variation is due to deferred maintainance. Listen to your car's engine, it is talking to you.

The VH41DE always takes a couple more turns to catch.

You're also in Texas.

Not talking about the engine.

More like the transmission and overall driving experience.

Once again, you've spoken. And nothing useful was contributed. Just some finger pointing and insinuating that everyone besides you is a complete Q bonehead. To hear you tell it, you're a certified Q genius. Got a Nissan Engineer's ID?

So this would make you an expert in cold starts in which way?

When you have to start your car in temperatures 30F and lower, and notice a change in the car's performance, then, your posts will have some sort of relevance? K?

I talk about improved transmission performance in the cold, and you babble on about engines and maintenance. Franchement.

Engine maintenance has great bearing on the way my suspension feels at sub freezing temperatures, eh Bri?

Maybe car runs better when it is colder out because transmission fluid is thicker before it gets up to temp?

As far as handling feel, all the rubber bushings and shock absorbers and even tires are less compliant {stiffer} also due to cold temps firming up the ride

The big difference I experience is a slightly louder throaty sound to the exhaust, almost like an old muscle car with headers, that goes away when it gets warmer out,oh and the front suspension seems a little louder when cold-new upper links in the trunk arnt doing their job back there! Guess its time to get them installed!

Hmm. That thought crossed my mind. Is there a thicker ATF?

I don't get much noise. (When it's cold) Only road noise. Maybe my rear door seals need to be replaced. I was having trouble with the strikers, but I managed to get the door flush if I close the door with my hand where the door hits the striker. Up near the window, and the door looks ajar.

No complaints about the suspension. It feels like a Lincoln Towncar when it's really cold. Only a super sporty one. Super smooth ride, amazing acceleration. The first gear start really does it's job.

Yes,there is thicker ATF available, but you really dont want to deviate from dex 3 specs much-maybe try some lubegard additive, but more importantly be sure to keep the fluid in transmission fresh{change out every 35-30k} as viscosity changes as fluid ages

Yeah, I just got fresh fluid put in after a BG flush. Do you recommend a fluid additive? I've tried Lucas Oil, and I was quite pleased with the results.

In my opinion when its cold out your engine is way cooler as logic says and through that your engine helps your piston rings to have more compression and the air density helps your car run with more oxygen so you basically have your car running at optimum power... my lovely Y33 does take a few more revolutions to turn on also Brian.. i dont know what causes that...

Ok.

Still not talking about the engine. Just seems that the colder it is, the more responsive the transmission feels. The smoother the ride feels, the tighter it handles, the whole enchilada.

@ B-Ri. Puerile name calling?

Ok if its that… its obvious DUUH that’s the whole concept of us installing bigger transmission coolers to give the transmission more life and performance if you haven’t been awake? I don’t know man it might just be the cold rush you have out side freezing you chilled up and your Q cool azz hell end of story mine has seen 35' and she was very well responsive = ] and Haitian_King just drive and enjoy it its not technical stuff its just adrenaline mixed with a good ol Q45 haha

Did it again this morning. Ambient temp was 37*. The bridge leading to my job was closed so I had to take the highway. I took a slightly longer route to the on-ramp so I could have the engine reach proper temp before accelerating to highway speed. After getting off the highway, I had to make a left. It was a two lane turn, and I was on the inside. This woman in a Ford Five Hundred tried to get the jump on me. I thought I was running late so I was reluctant to let her in front of me. I went through the turn, and half way out I pushed harder. The Q FLEW past this lady and she became a dot in my rearview.

When it's cold out, I don't feel the car shift. I hear it, but there's no "jerk" or shift shock. Very smooth. I feel like I can accelerate forever.

My question before was, why does it feel like that in cold weather? It runs perfectly. Temperatures above 50, it gets iffy. I never know if it will be a perfect run or if it's going to get all screwy again.
