Hey guys, whats going on. I have a question. Lately the temps here at night are anywhere from 40-50 degree's. During the day its up 65-75. I have noticed that my mbc (hallman) does not work well when the temps drop that low.. So i went ahead and removed it off the system and ran the hose from the compressor stem direct to the wastegate.. Took her out and its still over boosting. Normal boost without the boost controller is 6.5-7 psi solid..!! Now with the extremely cold weather, its hitting 9-10 psi solid.. I know that the cold weather and atmospheric changes will effect manual boost controllers, but also effect the wastegate directly..??My boost gauge reads 22 on the vacuum side so i know its working on vacuum side.Any clue's to why its over boosting..??

ThanksRobert

what kind of wastegate are u using?I noticed my HKS standard wastegate was boosting about 1-2 psi more one day than the normal wastegate level. This was on a cold day also. They prolly dont hold as rock solid over time I guess. Things tend to settle(the spring)

This is the reason that using a electronic boost controller is a more consistant alternative than running a manual. If you are using a boost controller that reads boost at the manifold(inlet piping) then if it measures anything above the set lb., then it adjusts it back to where its supposed to be. I like the hks evc for this reasong...as well as the blitz. Ilike the profec b...its what ill be using, but it want adjust the same as the hks or the blitz sbc.

It has nothing to do with the boost controller if he disconnected it altogether and it is still over-boosting. It shouldn't do that with hose running straight from the compressor to the wastegate diaphragm. I'm curious to see what you (Rob) find out is the problem.

Oh yeah--I had to comment on the "extremely cold weather."Try waking up to -7 degrees F, windchill of about -25 degrees F.Now that is extremely cold. :)

Ok your side of town is WAY TOO cold. But here, the temps average about 70-95 degree's. So a 35 degree day is a slap in the face.. ANYWAYS..Tonite is supposed to be up in the 60's so i will take her out to the nissan meet and see what it does. I'll will post tomorrow on results.. By the Way, I have a Tial 35mm wastegate with NO boost controller...!!

Once again rob, me having similar problems to you. I've got the same wastegate, but the profec b spec II boost controller. I've spiked upwards of 22 psi when I'm set at about 17psi, this seems to happen on cold nights always.

Damn, I've never had any spikes like that with a cheap home-made boost controller, not even in pretty cold weather. However, it'd be DAMN interesting to see how much boost I'd see in -15 degree weather (tomorrow--they may even cancel school!).
