When its 35 or less and I start my car it idles extremely rich for about 5 mins. i slowly rev it and then it goes back to normal like a regular cold start at about 1700 rpms, and as it warms up comes back to normal idle. Im not sure what the problem is Im thinking its the MAF. Does anyone have similar problems with their SR.

Could be the wrong plugs for your climate and it takes them longer to reach the correct operating temp. Or maybe your AICV. Maybe O2 sensor.

I have the same situation too. I smell fuel after I get out of the car, but that could be because I don't have the charcoal canister connected right now.

I smell fuel in my car all the time. The ethanol, MTBE, god knows what mixture that we have out here smells kinda sweet. I like knowing that my car is running a bit rich.

With regards to StarfireS14's cold starts and high idle RPMs... What is a high idle RPM? 2000? 2500? 3000?!?! =)

When I first start mine, it floats up to 2K, then down to 1700. It gradually settles from there to about 1100 by the time the thermostat opens. That process takes 2-3 minutes. By the time I've driven for a couple of blocks, it settles to an 800 RPM idle when stopped.

Turbo charged cars are definitely more tempermental than NA's. Everything needs to come up to temp first. If you live in a cold climate, it takes longer to warm the fluids and expand the metal than it does in warmer climates.

I've noticed that when it gets closer to time to change the oil, it takes longer to settle down after first starting.

75 degrees and higher, my car will act normal like any other car. Anywhere under it will have a high idle around 1100. If temps drop below 60, that's when I get the surging idle from 1.5-2k rpm until I stop and wait for a few seconds. But still it will idle around 1500 or higher when its under 60 degrees. I have no clue what it could be. Also, I can't unplug my TPS to check my ignition timing. Doing so, will cause my idle to go up to 2100 (idle screw is all the way down). So I timed my vehical with it plugged in on a warm day for better accuracy. I haven't a clue about why it idles the way it does though. I get used to it in the cooler weather, as long as the car still drives normal.

Well in a normal car on a cold day they idle at about 1500 on initial start. My sr gets to 1500 only after i tap on gas for about 5 mins when i start and it idles rough. Im thinking its the plug for cylinder 3,that plug was pretty bad when i checked it last. Its not my daily driver I only start it now and then I have all new plugs to install so I will see where it goes from there.
