I have a 86 300zx turbo. When you start it when it is cold it will just die unless you give it some gas. Then after that it will idle rough for maybe 2-4 mintues until it is warmed up. After that it runs fine. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks for your help.

CHTS (cylinder head temp sensor), it's a pain to get to but that's a typical Z 31 problem, if that doesn't take care if it you might want to look at the FICV (fast idle Control Valve)

Well it kept getting worse to finally it got to where I can't get it going at all. So I finally got around to replacing the CHTS but it did not solve my problem. The car has been running really rich lately. Anyone have any ideas what else it could be. Possibly the MAF?

also check your wires at the knock sensor, the wires can get brittle and break it happens with the earlier turbo cars

Hey this was happening to me as well, then just the other day I stopped on my way home for gas, put in $20 and it wouldn't start at all. . I tried getting it started for about an hour then called for a tow (I looked under the hood but I don't know what I'm doing).. So it was sitting for a day while I sat making calls to see if anyone could give me some advice then I went out and tried starting it. It started right up, no problems, on the first try! Music to my ears, so I drove it around, everything was fine, and it was running smoothe (sometimes it shifts hard, it's an automatic). A friend said to get some carburator cleaner, and on the left side on the engine there's a little black box, to spray disconnect the terminals and spray them because the contacts are bad. So I guess I'll give that a shot, and hope that I don't mess anything up.

Well I believe I finally figured out the problem. The fuel pressure was too low so tomorrow the fuel pressure regulator is getting changed and hopefully it will be fixed.

ok for auto cars you might want to also check the neutral safty switch if the starter is not engaging at all
