it's an auto 98 stock KA24DE

it is so hard to turn over when the weather is so cold , but starts up fine when the car is warmed up. Just got the car and the spark plugs seems old so here are the list of things i replaced

new spark plugs and wiresnew battery

- checked the alternator and it was good. not sure if it is a dying starter but still hear the cranking sound just that the sound goes from strong to weak as the battery voltage is going down

1 time i tried to crank it 8 times with 10 sec break in between and it manage to drain out the entire battery.

really have no idea what is happening as it doesnt seem to be an electrical problem.

checked the grounding and its perfect with the DMM.

any ideas guys? would the engine be flooding or something? anyway to make sure if it is ?

really apprecaite it if some of u ever experience something like this.

thanks a lot

Do you mean slow crank?

You might have a weak battery have it checked to see if its any good. You could have voltage drop on the positive cable to the starter or a bad starter itself drawing way to much amperage. But I would start with the battery and if thats good make sure your connections are good and tight at the battery post and go from there. Good luck and welcome to nico.

how do i check for a bad starter? and any way to use a DMM to check for a bad positive cable to the starter?

it cranks hard but slower and slower as the voltage of the batery drops. i tried 2 new battery and its showing the same symptom , will it be possible its flooding? and how do i check if it is =\

thanks for the welcome man , but appreciate if someone could help me out with the problem.

The way you check for voltage drop on the positive cable is to connect one lead to the positive terminal of the battery and the other lead to starter motor positive cable (which the same one) and have someone crank the car for you and see what you have rule of thumb is anything .50 volt or higher is concidered to much voltage drop but on the big positive cable .5 volts voltage drop is still ok. You should also check the negative cable the same way while cranking. If the cables check ok you probably have a bad starter i.e. drawing to much amperage. Hope this helps.

which negative cable are you referring to?the main ground wire?

im a bit confused here so i should wire the digital multimeter in series with the battery and the positive lead wire to the starter motor? or just one lead to the +ve terminal of the battery and the other red lead to the positive terminal on the starter itself?

anyway to check if the engine is flooding? (i.e leaky injectors etc) cause it reallly starts up fine after the first start and warmed up engine.

thanks a lot
