Whenever i start my car from a cold start my rpms shoot to 2000 then dances between 1500 and 2000 for about 30 sec or so before slowly dropping down to a steady 1k. I am not sure this is normal but does not sound normal.

This probably has been asked a million times but could not find an answer, but at times my car is real sluggish from a stop and other times the rpms shoot to 3k and it takes off. This is probably completely normal for a 2.5 cvt but thought id bring it up, maybe a solution has been found recently. Not sure if a basic tune-up will fix these issues or not. Car has 73k miles on it but only owned it for 8k of those miles so not sure when the last tune-up was done. Possibly transmission fluid change is in order? Just feels like the car is choking itself on acceleration. Not sure if this affects anything but i put reg unleaded fuel in my car. Read somewhere that people are putting mid-grade in the 2.5. Cant imagine a 4cyl needing anything more then regular.

I apologize if any of this has been asked before, used the search and could not find anything pertaining to my main issue of idling. Perhaps i just suck at searching though.

And to note, my car is stock 2.5S with no mods.

This seems like a cvt issue and normal for 2.5s. I don't think it's a mechanical problem but rather a computer controlled issue.

Are you referring to the idling issue. If so is this something that should be looked at, should i take it to the dealership or something i can fix myself. Cars obviously no longer under warranty so not trying to make an unnecessary trip to the dealership. I just don't remember it doing this when i first bought the car.

My 3.5 does the same high rpm thing from a cold crank you are describing; usually mine cranks up around 1500 rpm and gradually goes down to about 700 or so rpm's, but I don't get the sluggish fill from mine. another thing I've noticed is my car reaches optimal operating temps. quicker than any car I've ever had, and due to that I thought the car was programmed to do the high rpm's from cold crank for the reason to get the car to optimal operating temperature quicker.

My car does both of the things you described. From a cold start, the rpms will dance around like you said, but I usually just start driving right away and it's normal.

About the sluggishness, I've felt that too. Like sometimes it feels a lot slower accelerating. I always just dismissed it as being in my head lol. Mine only has 18k miles and I have an intake and exhaust

Alright cool so everything seems normal there. One less issue I need to address. Thanks for the replies fellas.
