I just bought my car a week ago, and from the first day I noticed there's a continuous clatter sound from the transmission or engine when pressing gas pedal.

It happens only when pressing gas pedal, and only when just starting the car, lasts for a few minutes until the temperature is up. Normally it should be gone in about 2 miles.
There's no clatter when the engine is idle. I would try whether there is the clatter if I press gas pedal on neutral.(updated: no clatter on P or N)

I read the FAQ, and this post.

But I don't think they are the same cause, because the sound is there even beyond 2200rpm. If I press gas pedal harder, the clatter will be faster.

Is this normal, or I need to go back to the dealer to ask them to have a check?
Thanks,
Chan

I'd take it to the dealer to have them take a look and document it. If they can't reproduce the issue, have them check other 2012 Altimas to see if the noise can be reproduced. Your linked post is undoubtedly a resolved issue by now, given that it affected 2007/2008 models.

Welcome to NICO.

I checked this morning, and there's no such sound when I put the transmission to N or P. I will contact the deal for a check.

i've had two altimas a 2004 and now a 2008 coupe both made the exact noise ur explaining never had a problem with either bought both from 2 diff dealers in 2 diff states idk what it is but it's normal to me.

Edit: it almost sounds like there's a thin metal cover somewhere on the engine that is vibrating but only lasts until I back out of the driveway and sometimes when its really cold as a drive off but after that completely gone. I've been told alot of things including the ABS checking itself but its deff not that, completely diff sounds and or vibrations.

On my 07 altima sedan also does the same thing in cold starts. It only does it once like if its hitting something in the header area but I find it normal now. Til this day idk what its causing that but as long as nothing breaks, I'm fine with it.

el_blacky... that sounds like the abs self check; totally normal. i'm not sure about OP's problem, however.
