I have a 99 Q 45 with 88K that does not start immediately after sitting overnight. Sometimes it takes two or three tries and it will start otherwise not a single problem.

I would start with the battery, then work my way to the battery cables, then to the alternator. After that the starter. Voltage Meter Checks can be done for free at places like Autozone our Kragen.

i may have same problem if your car is not turning over at all. i also have a 99 q45 with 149k miles. when i turn the key, nothing happens- engine doesn't turn over or anything, just blank. It may be a battery issue, so I'll get that checked out first at Autozone. It was just at initial start attempt but now it's taking me like 2-3 times to turn the key before the car actually starts. But it has no problems starting once power goes thru.

The car cranks just fine. It acts like it is out of gas. This morning it started just fine. I turned the ignition on and waited about 10 seconds and it fired up. Can I run a diagnostic and see if it put up a code? I appreciate your help. I have owned the car for 3 months and have been very satisfied.

You can check for a code but codes are only run if there is a problem with something that has a direct correlation to emission increases. Sounds to me that the most likely candidate is the fuel system. As long as the engine cranks with ease that would rule out the starting system. Check your air filter, if you haven't serviced your fuel filter for a long time check it also. Could also be a spark issue but I've rarely seen an intermittent spark problem. According to old posts I've read of Bullittandy's this model Q has lame coils but again, intermittent issues with spark are uncommon unless it is a problem unique to this model Q. Fuel pressure could be to blame.

It was a bad key. The key on my wife's chain failed to start the car. When I used my key it starts right away. Live and learn.

The keys apparently have a built in transponder of some sort. The chipped key has to be schlepped to a dealer to have the appropriate Kama Sutra treatment so it will make your Q breathe hard. No chip, or bad chip = no soup for you. I do not know for a fact, but have read here that trying to start the car with the wrong key can disable the ignition through the cars security/chastity system. IOW, until you can verify, I wouldn't keep cranking with her key until it's been rubbed just right by the man with the big grin and the large invoice.
