My 2004 Frontier has erratic power loss while engine is cold. Acts like it's running out of gas, cuts out and stalls above 40 mph or under load. Replaced fuel filter but no improvement. Found that if you turn engine off and back on it will fix problem, once engine has warmed a little, otherwise it may take 5 to 10 minutes of driving to clear up.

i think i have seen this problem before, but might not be the same. on the frontiers i have seen this on have all been 4wd. found the trans output seal where transfer case bolts up to be leaking causing a low fluid level in trans causing torque converter to abnormaly operated until fluid wars up and expands. if you have this problem checking the dipstick for the trans or looking for a leak will be obvious. if not you may want to check the fuel sender connector for corrosion.

Thanks for the tip. My transmission was at the low end of the dipstick, I filled it up but unfortunately it didn't help my problem. Not sure if it's related or not but around the same time the cold performance problems started my cruise control began acting up, sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. Hooked up to the OBDII system and got an error code showing the vehicle speed sensor malfunctioning. My speedo seems to be working fine, as well as the rest of my gauges. Getting a little fed up, all this is on a vehicle with less than 30k on it, I thought Nissan was supposed to be good.
