So I have noticed this winter that there is a strange whining sound coming from my car. Really hard to pinpoint, sometimes it sounds like wind, but I am sure it is the transmission or the differential. The sound goes away with 5 to 10 minutes of driving. Does anyone have a similar problem/sound?

Also when the car is cold it is pretty hard to get the car into second gear until the car is warmed up a bit as well. I am using Amsoil transmission fluid so it is a full synthetic and I would expect the cold to not have such a drastic effect.

Let me know. Thanks.

as sound is not what that last topic is about...

That had to do with syncros in the transmission...

I think you are having a different problem... Not sure what that is but I just read over the last topic and that isn't the same thing....

Like if you go to shift into 2nd or 3rd gear do you get a grind noise?

Yeah I do if I do not be careful. If you go to the bottom of the other thread there is another posting almost identical to mine by 2006G35Coupe.

Seems like it could be a transmission failure problem, the synchros are will definitely grind if I don't let the car warm up, sometimes I will just go 1st to 3rd until it is warmed up, or just take of using 3rd in the snow works too.

I had the same problem...the dealer replaced the transmission under warranty.

It is a great time to replace the clutch...just know what you want ahead of time.

Brought this thread in to the dealer in response to my problem. (Originally posted at the bottom of http://forums.g35club.org/zero...62522)

They are now replacing the transmission under warranty.

The question now is whether I go ahead and replace the entire clutch assembly while the transmission is out. I know ill save a lot of money on the labor but the parts alone are pretty expensive. How do i know how much life is left on the clutch? Any downfall to leaving the old one in there?

How many miles on the car? I'd say if its between 20-30k, you'd benefit from a replacement. Just be careful in what you use as some of the high performance parts will induce a gear lash rattle. If you want to save some cash, I would a least replace the clutch (leave the OEM flywheel) with a good stage 1-2.

My dealership charged $180 labor for the clutch/flywheel and $90 to remove my aftermarket exhaust

Getting the car checked out on Monday, we will see what happens. Depending on what they say I am going to have some questions regarding replacing the clutch while they have it apart, my dad is a mechanic and looked up the hours for clutch replacement on the car and said it was 5 hours so I might skip the clutch and have him work on it when it needs to be done. I will keep you posted.
