Did you wire the orange wire? Its like a choke. My engine didnt want to start or stay running when cold until I wired it up. I have a post about it on racebread.com

Sorry, I wasn't trying to fish.

here is what I had:

That orange wire is important! The ecu register for "ignition start" does not click to "on" if you don't have this wired up. Before my car took several attempts to start before it would run when cold. Now it starts right up. I think it is telling the fuel pump to pressurize the lines.

Which was followed by:

Jon Powell - Ever hear of a choke on an older carbeurated motor?

Orange wire is your choke.

Other info:

in the 240sx FSM wiring diagram, I think I found the connector I am talking about labeled as "F1" on ECU side and "M53" on harness side.Orange goes to the "Ignition Switch On or Start"

Goes to pin 43 on the rb ecu plug.

This helped me a lot (the rb side anyhow)http://s92978298.onlinehome.us/RB/gtr_plugs.pdf

connector "P" in the diagram pin "b". Diagram says its black and yellow.I just spliced the orange wire into this wire. I didn't have to do anything down by the ecu.

Hope that helps.

you mean its what primes the fuel pump (turns it on before actual cranking to pressurize the system) ? if so, it priming, not choking, very different. if i have my car parts right its the iac thats the choke.

From what i remember on the wiring diagram, they all run together anyhow, so if your prime isnt working, your choke aint working either. But I could be remembering wrong and I am too lazy to go look it up.

It richens up the fuel map when it knows you are starting it. The pump prime is independent of this wire as is IAC. Its just like a choke on a carbureted engine except it is telling the ecu to pump more fuel through the injectors.

Wow I thought the start signal wire was like one of the cardinal wires that get hooked up... Anyways you might also want to make sure that your air regulator is hooked up also. This will raise your idle up for a minute or so when you first start your car.
