Just bought a Sandstone "S" Sedan, automatic. Has anyone put on a cold air intake on theirs? Also has anyone switched to Mobil 1 or Royal Purple synthetics after their first oil change.

Wondering if anyone has done the above and what kind of MPG increase?

Thanks

Many of us have put in Mobil1 Synthetic after our first, or first few, changes. Reported fuel mileage gains are minimal, but the synthetics have the advantage of going longer between oil changes and theoretically longer engine life.

Of course, the V is too new to actually compare engine lifes between oils.

a CAI is available, but you may want to check with AEM. Often times their CAIs for smaller vehicles are only available for manual transmission vehicles. Automatics are usually larger transmissions and can get in the way of the piping.

The AEM intake works with all models of the V

I use Mobil 1 in everything that I have now and will switch over at the first oil change.

Anyone put on a cold air intake and did you notice any pickup in fuel economy.

I saw a 3 mpg gain on average.

Yeah, as stated above, I'm using Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 per my dealer's suggestion.I waited until the first scheduled change (3,750mi) to make the switch. My Nissan dealer offers free oil changes, so I just bring in the oil and they cover the rest.

I'm planning on doing the CAI soon.I too hope to get a little better mileage from it.

Cheers!

I wouldn't be surprised if he told you this to make is easier on himself. 10w30 is known as the universal oil and most shops buy this stuff in bulk. As with 10w30, 5w30 will protect when the temp's in the 100's. As far as increasing the mpg, it may make it worse. Modern engines are made with much closer tolerances than those before. The thicker oils tend to become more of a hindrance than a help.

Also, many dealerships offer 5w30 as a free option, which is a thinner oil that can reach more easily into the inner workings of the engine on a cold start. My car takes a bit less time to warm up, and it never feels like you're running the engine without full lubrication.

This is not a promise of performance increase,

It just helps out with longevity and piece of mind.

I would like to add something else. Switching to 10W30 may help your fuel economy. Despite all logic, I've seen a few people who were in newer cars and actually received a higher mpg from making the same switch

I've run regular oil, QuakerState Q Blend, QuakerState Q Full Synthetic, and now I run Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic in my Ranger and I noticed a 2-3mpg gain with the Castrol Syntec. When I switched to from regular to blend to full synthetic I noticed small power increases as well. I may move up to Amsoil Full Synthetic next change in about 2300 miles, if I can find a local dealer, it's too $$ to ship it.
