I'm still questioning the efficacy or benefit of installing cold air intakes. Wouldn't a "cold air intake" just suck in warm air from within the engine bay? I feel that the stock air intake set up is sufficient, personally. Are the aftermarket intake setups just desirable for their extra noise?

I thought an aftermarket intake would take in cold air from outside the engine bay and bring in the outside air which theoretically would be colder than the hot air inside the engine bay, i honestly have no idea how they work but I know that they are supposed to bring in colder air that is not directly taken in from the engine bay. I think its supposed to take in colder air from somewhere else on the car... I am really not quite sure honestly but that is my understanding.... If anyone else wants to correct me go right ahead and please do! But I did not know that aftermarket intakes affected the sound? How do they alter the sound of the car??

Perhaps I'm mistaken somewhere, I might have the concept of a CAI wrong. Maybe I'm mixing up aftermarket intakes (i.e. the JWT Pop Charger) and an actual cold air intake.

Check this YouTube video out for an example of the change in sound with a JWT Pop Charger.

yes ive watched all of his videos haha but the difference in a CAI and what Silvapathy has are that a cold air intake has a long pipe that goes to a different part of the body such as the front bumper and takes in the cold air from there were as a pop charger takes the air in front inside the engine bay but with a heat shield to prevent hot air from getting in there but unfortunately sometimes hot air does get in there but if im not mistaken i think silvapathy has a pop charger but rigged up a pipe to his front bumper and fed that to the end of his pop charger?? which is kind of a mix of both.. but the only drawback of getting a CAI is that if water gets in there then that would create hydrolock and make your engine seize up. and a pop charger from what i understand is a short wide pipe that is just designed create a faster air flow to the engine?? but the point of a aftermarket intake from what i understand is to get more oxygen to the engine and colder air has more oxygen in it and with more oxygen that makes more combustion which helps out with horsepower and fuel economy. haha sorry after i posted this i did more reasearch myself and figures some things out myself. So basically what im trying to figure out is if there is a brand that makes a cold air intake for a 1999 Infiniti QX4.. i cant find one anywhere but i wanted to know if anyone knows of any that would fit ??

Does anyone know what model of the K&N CAI to get or anything like that? Which one fits the best and works the best?
