This summer I plan on saving up and either getting a cold air intake of a short ram but I am indifferent between the two and I'm not sure which would be better for the Versa. I've seen the discussions on the short ram about its benefit being that it doesn't get waterlogged but that the heat from the engine can mess with the cold air coming in making the engine's fuel supply go up and down. Any one see any specific benefits to either of the two for the Versa?

i opted for the CAI, haven't installed it yet. word is better gains (although i did read someone saying the opposite) with a CAI.

water? just don't drive through deep puddles. a shield will help with underspray.

you can install an air bypass valve, some say you will lose gains , some say you will be replacing this often, and at $70 or so, not too cheap.

Neither will net you any benefit other than sound. "Cold air intakes" use filters that filter far less therefore letting more air and all the dust and other harmful things into the engine.

If you lover your Versa then keep the intake stock. If you want sound look at the exhaust.

Trust me I am sure those engineers tried everything they could to the intake so it would save fuel and give you performance.

I'm looking for minor upgrades at the moment. If I got a new exhaust I'd get cat back since axle back isn't going to get you much gain and that'd be like $400. Sadly, I work a part time job to pay off my 10K loan I used to get my Versa, so it's difficult for me to want to drop that much money at once. But has anyone ever looked at other intakes? Is it necessary to get the Versa speed intakes? Or does anyone think its possible to get an aftermarket intake that fits and isn't as costly?

First, I have an Stillen Cold Air Intake and aside from the noise a upper rpm, I didn't see any difference.

So if you're tight on money, you should keep your money to pay off the loan or put gas and enjoy driving it, Then buy a "faster" car when you will make more money.

Generally sound damping is given a higher priority than performance, especially on the Versa. Saving fuel and performance are opposites of each other.

The CAI has been shown to gain about 4-5hp. I don't know that anyone has dynoed a short ram intake yet. The wheel well where the filter goes is already sheltered from water splashes. look under your car and you'll find a plastic tray in about four pieces that block splashes and make the car more aerodynamic to help MPG.

Versaspeed isn't the only place to buy Versa aftermarket parts, but Bob generally has a competitive price on everything, has good customer service and product knowledge, and even comes to the site to make sure everyone is doing well. I'd rather pay a couple bucks more if necessary to buy from someone that actually sees me and not my wallet when I want something for my car. I haven't found the case yet that someone would beat a price from Versaspeed though.

FYI here is the results from the Dyno run they did on a Cube after the installation of the Takeda System. Cube and Versa are the same set up so the results would be about the same. The nice thing about the Takeda is they shielded the area under and in front of the Filter to keep as much heat as they could away from it and they incorporate the stock nozzle for cold air to be filtered to the system...a lot of thought put into the design for maximum efficiency...nice piece.

That being said, if you are wrestling with the car payment etc. wait till your in a more comfortable position because the worst thing is to go a cheaper route (if one exists) and actually lose HP/TQ for the sake of looks/sound.

Haha, I'm not gonna be broke here. Currently with college I cant work full time but I plan on it during the summer. I enjoy making modifications to my Versa no matter how pointless. I understand the performance gain is minimal, but I'm attempting to get a BS in ME and the workings of an automobile intrigue me. But let me get this strait, the cold air is more dense and tells the sensor to use more fuel. So this has absolutely no gas mileage benefit?
