I just received my Intake in the mail... have a 91 hatch 240 w/ HICAS . There is a line going from the Air Filter box to some kind of sensor/part and then works its way into the exhaust manifold. Can this be eliminate?... What does it do? This is my first post but I have been reading a lot of posts and looked at the Installs section and dont see anything about this. Any help would be fine

The temp sensor? I didn't even use mine on the 96, just left it hanging... though I would like to know what you are SUPPOSED to do with it also... Ken

It certaintly has enough wires/hoses running from it. was wondering if I should just plug it off and let it hang or what.

Do a search for AIV. Thats what that little box is, yes you can eliminate it, or you can just put a small breather on the hose that was going to the stock airbox when you take it out.

Well I got it done. I just ran my hose directly into the existing hose...still don't know what that hose was coming down through the bottom of the intake near the left just before it goes into the engine. I will post with hyperlink to pics I took as soon as I get them uploaded

it is a vacuum line, are you talking about the one that comes from the valve cover?

uhh, looks like you missed a vacuum line!

here's yours

the hole in the intake that you have going into the valve cover, that tubing should have a splitter and you should run it into another place like this, this isn't the greatest pic but you'll see that the tubing splits off so both holes get filtered air. If you leave that other hole open it's baaaaad.

ok where does that down tube go... can I just plug it off, it's a pretty big tube. the original had a tube that came up into the bottom of the intake. Even If I split it on the upper tube, will it get enough air? And thanks BTW. If I could see a little clsoer where the split is, it might make more sense to me.

Ok I have looked at the best I can without taking everything apart. That hose is disappearing into the radiator cover. It looks like it is between the two fans in some kind of box or something. I think that is supposed to be some kind of intake coming off the radiator. It doesn't seem to be drawing any suction one way or another, so unless I hear otherwise I am leaving it as is.

Ok I had a neighbor of mine who is a Toyota mechanic take a look at it. He said that it went into the radiator box and was for cool air and to muffle the sound of the intake and was not needed. He said I could take it out or leave it there. So for now I am leaving it there. Has nothing to do with the brakes. whew <sigh of releif>

No you do not. I have been driving mine with no problems. It seems the large hose right below the intake has 2 purposes 1. muffle the engine sound and 2. provide cool air off the radiator. It hooks in to some box behind the radiator. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BRAKES! You don't need it... take it out if you can get to it....good luck.

That tube leads to a resonator. It is just an empty plastic box that helps muffle the intake sound, nothing more. Rip it out. The first tube you were referring to leads to the AIV. It doesn't need to be connected to the intake. You can just put a breather filter on it.

read the AIV post, check you chiltons and you should be able to figure it out. If you can't call a friend, he'll know what to do.
