Any suggestions on a good cold air intake and any bolt on mods for a 2001 gxe with 100,000 miles. I want to increase horsepower as much as possible for under $1000. Plus any suggestions for good plugs now that it is due for a change. thanks for any advise.

The OEM intake was made with a good balance of power and aerodynamics in mind, Why would you want to change it up?

I am a Q guy and never owned a car like yours. But we have a guy call Q45tech in our forums that is super smart on this kind of stuff, Might want to read his posts.

Always use NGK plugs. The coil packs on a Maxima don't like other ones. They are designed well and I don't think many people stray from NGK. Just make sure they are clean and gapped properly.

Most Maximas the biggest gains are with a y-pipe or headers (depending on the engine). I have an older VE engine, but I think the VQ still has a crappy stock y-pipe.

An underdrive pulley will free up a few extra horsepower. If you have a 5-speed, upgrade to a better clutch and an aluminum flywheel.

Probably something that you will enjoy just as much is improving your suspension. Adding Eibach springs, Tokico struts, a stiffer rear sway bar and strut tower braces made my car much more fun to drive.

There are not a ton of bolt ons, unless you want something serious like a supercharger or nitrous.

Easy question... dont upgrade your suspension cuz thats not going to help your horsepower.

You should get a short ram intake- ebay ftw (cheap isnt always bad, alot of guys do homemade ones and gain as much as a brand name)

obx 3.5 equal length ypipe headers (these fit on the 3.0 and are better design)- ebay again

NWP engineer phenolic intake spacers- just google nwp engineer and you will find it.

If you do the work yourself (none of these are difficult because I did them myself exept havnt bought spacers yet) this can all be done for considerably less than $1000 and you will definitely be feeling the difference.

Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions because I have the modding bug and am also trying to up my power in an affordable manner.

how good do the OBX headers fit?? Why do you suggest the WAI over a true CAI??

TO THE OP: a y pipe is a great mod

Does anyone actually have the NWP spacers installed? I was thinking of installing them when I change my plugs. I've read that they will add a little midrange to offset the slight loss in installing a vias block plate, (one of which is in transport to me).Adding up the claimed increases- Y-Pipe 10-12 hp, vias block plate 8-10 hp, phenolic spacers 8-10 hp. So, on the conservitive side, one should gain 20-25 hp with these bolt-ons. Hmmmm...... that's quite signifigant if true. You'll be guaranteed to feel an increase of 10% hp.

1. install the Y-PIPE2. install the '06 Altima NISMO true cold air intake(it fits with rotating the battery tray and cutting a hole for the piping!) If you don't want to install a cold air intake, remove the "water reserve" from the bottom of your intake and pipe it to the fog light hole in the front bumper!!3. NGK Plugs for sure!4. underdrive pulley for sure5. lightweight flywheel and performance clutch? manny?6. bypass the coolant from the intake air control valve. (search here on NICO)7. cattman resonator and muffler...PERFECT BACK PRESSURE for the Maxima, and full stainless steel!

I believe, I've improved the balance and aerodynamics of my engine (VQ35DE) which is equipped with Cattman headers and I've found that a short ram intake works best with header and high flow exhausthere's a pic of my Hybrid Short Ram:Danger Jet Intake!
