Hows it going im new here and I need some advice.

I found out my Rb25det coils were grounding (loud clicking noise) so I tried doing that electrical tape insulation but it didnt work. I tested the coils and they were weak so i ended up buying new coils from raw brokage.

I replaced the coils but I can still hear the clicking when I blimp the throttle and at idle some cylinders keep missing. So next I plugged in some spark plug wires directly from the coils to the plug and I can see the spark jumping and grounding on the head on cylinder 1-3.

The motor must of been sitting outside collecting water because the head is all oxidazed I cleaned it with soap and water but still getting the same results.

I am out of ideas to get this fixed, anyone recommend something to do? some sorth of way to insulate the plug?

thanks

what does your spark plug look like for that cylinder?

It's clean in some spots and dark in others like patchy black. Let me take a pic of it

might wanna try focusing the camera on the plug for clearer pics

Did you try replacing the spark plugs?

Yeah these plugs are new ones. My camera sucks but you get the idea its not completely burning all the fuel.

Ok so I tested my charging system again and i'm only seeing 13.9 v to power the coils. I am guessing thats my problem ill update this once I change my alternator.

The only funny part is that i can still heard the clicking when i rev, after i cleaned and painted the head with engine paint.

edit: now im getting code 21 on ecu.

edit 2: For some reason my voltmeter can't read the voltage at the white wire (coil harness side) but it could read it at the main power wire (black/red stripe) is that normal? This is a series 2 ignitor on coil.

I keep hearing that click, anyone think it might be the injectors?

13.9V to the coils is normal. The spark jumping across to the head is obviously the problem. I don't think the insulating tape job on the original coils was sufficient.

The clicking noise would more or less be the injectors, they can be kinda loud. But far as the coils bouncing spark, I suggest inspecting the coils( For cracks or splits in the boots and so forth) and u could try to ole epoxy insulation trick or lexane i think it is called. So from my understanding only cylinders 1-3 are doing this?

So its not the coils "clicking" its the variable timing selenoid doing this, will that cause bad idle?

edit: Once i start the car and get it running if i try to check the voltage on the white plug on the coil harness I cant get a good reading, the voltage aint constant. Is that normal?

The VTC solenoid should not be clicking because it should not be actuating at idle. It could create an irratic idle especially if there is an electrical issue with it, which there obviously is.

White plug on the coil harness? Do you mean white wire on the coil harness?

Yeah the main power wire on the coil side harness.

I'm not sure if that is going to stay put at 13.9V while running because current is running thru it to charge the coil. Maybe someone else could expand on that, but I wouldn't expect that voltage to stay exactly constant while the engine is running.

Well I still can't figure this out, I noticed I have a Manual ECU but my motor was automatic converted to manual 5 speed now. Are manual and automatic ecu's interchangeable?

i know this is the ghetto way to insulate the coils, use a crap load of electral tape on the rubber isulator that runs from the coil to the plug, that sorta helps, hope this helps

That's not a good idea. Electrical tape will melt into a pool of sticky goo when it gets really hot. I've seen it. (not on my car)

Weird... mine are wrapped and nothing has happened... maybe they used that crap walmart tape... if you do it get 3M tape thats the only electrical tape i would ever use! always stays sticky cold or hot!

If you are clicking at Idle then something is grounding out or you have another issue. The VTC solenoid clicks once, when you put 2% on the tps.
