hey guys

so i am debating which set of coils to get, bc is 999 shipped from circuit and tein is about 1300 shipped from advance speed shop...

since there are currently more members on bc at the moment, i am wondering if you guys have experienced any problems with the bc coils?

and right now from loop's posts, the diff i see from the two are noises and valving, so is it worth it to spend the extra cash to get the tein? or just stick with bc racing, since again, my baby is strictly for daily driving..

oh and another questions, how much does it cost to install the coils?

thanks guys

Flight1001,

There are more people on BC's because it came out faster with a great deal(group buy) and has good features for its price. They are not bad but I had issues with mine and I had the similar problems to what the g37 BC coilovers owners had too.

Tein's came out this year and they have done a good amount of R&D for the best possible ride. More geared for daily driving due to the way its engineered.

Coilover installs is more expensive than spring installs. Possibly in the good $150-250 range. If anyone lives in LA/OC county, I can give tips as I have done a good amount of installs.

Yeah and I wonder if they have adjusted to the new Tein lowered price as mentioned on their website. Seems a bit pricey at Stillen. Where is the NICO love?

Main issue is the noise, from clunks to rattles. Even when adjusting the preload to several different settings and making sure the bolts were torque to the right amount. According to the g37 owners who had BC, majority of the people had this issue and it was due to the shocks itself and not the preload. Some people were lucky to not have these problems though. Next would be the ride, it became too bouncy for my likings. It would look like your car is rocking back and forth.

Yep, I am surprise no one has said anything but me on this forum. I guess they don't have any issues or are fine with it.

I'm getting some pretty distinctive clunking on the fronts passenger-side assembly, and I can't figure out where it's coming from. Not sure if it's the coilover or if something has come loose. Tried tightening things up yesterday, but no change.

I have problems with my BC but I rarely get on here. Driver side spring spins when I turn the wheel so it makes a loud clunk/pop sound. I can fix it but I haven't had time to take the coilover off the car and reassemble the top-hat since that is not sitting correctly. Other then that no other problems.

Bunda, is that the problem? My passenger-side coilover makes a loud clunking, almost a popping noise whenever I go over sufficiently-big bumps (and sometimes it reverberates after large bumps). I have time enough to prop the car up and undo the top three bolts and re-mount them if that's what you're talking about...

...Or is it something in the coilover assembly that you're describing?

The spring will move when turning your wheels. That is how it is designed.

this happened to me with all four coilovers, very annoying and i was about to return them but i told my shop about it and they fixed the problem, something was loose or whatever. i noticed most ppl have installed their coilovers themselves maybe you should just go to an established and experienced shop just to make sure everything is perfect. After they fixed that loose object and i adjusted my ride a little smoother ive had no complaints and it feels smoother than my eibachs did.

Who installed it in the first place? Having all 4 doing that is a bad install from the start.

For those who have issues, I would check the top strut bolt, pillowball bolts(top and bottom), lowering mounting points, sway bars, and endlinks. Make sure they are all tight(torque correctly). Also preload them correctly(3-5mm).

Oh, I know the springs are suppose to turn but mine was turning and popping at the same time. It was turning more then it should you can say. What I had to do to fix most of it was to re-tighten the top strut bolt and adjust the pre-load again. I haven't fully fix the problem yet because i still have this slight gap but it is a simple fix.

Also my problem only appears when I turn my wheel more than 90 degrees each way but it only happen sometime.

I've got to change my oil. Maybe I'll take it to the shop and have them tighten up everything again. Thanks for the advice!

I waited a little while for them to settle, but got it done shy of a hundred miles post-install.

Can we have the answer to that question (if they work for the 2.5) on the forums as well?

Thanks

Edit: New MSRP for the Tein's is 1500 on their site

Noise is gone! It was the top bolt, right beneath the damper-knob. Sucker had about a .25-inch gap between the top of the shock and the bottom of the nut - not good. A 17mm crescent wrench did the trick, and now the noise is gone. An impact gun might have been able to fix it, but with the knob there, I don't know if I was going to be able to get it done. If it comes loose again, at least I know what to do.

The more faint sound is still coming from the back, but because it's more faint and because there's so much more effort involved in getting to it, I'm going to put that off for another day.

I have the BC's and no problems what so ever. IMO its quieter than the OEM suspension other than when you hit large bumps (in nyc they have speed bumps on the expressways and parkways). Loop what spring rate were you running? It could be why it was bouncy. Got about 3k miles on them and definitely have no complaints.
