I see that a lot of people suggest coilovers to those who ask about uprgrades. I used to use coilovers on my last race car, and I hated them. Just the constant adjustments and hard feel to them. Now I dont drift, just not my thing, I go straight and pleasure cruise.I am currently using tein drop springs and KYB AGX shocks on the new project. What are some of the benifits of coilovers? I love the feel of the springs, but then again im not sliding.

Are coilovers be more suitabible for drinfting or circle track?

EDIT DRIFTING

Coilovers FTW no matter waht your doing with it. your wheel fitment will look like donkey without coilovers

no not at all. There are different coilovers made specifically for different reasons, depending on spring rates and damper settings. Drag cars will have spring rates as low as like 4/3 kg and drift cars would have spring rates as stiff as like 12/10 kgs (for the 240sx of course)... Anything in the middle I'd say would be best streetable (8/6 or softer).

also, with springs, you'd get a weird uneven fender gap that you can correct with coilovers...

with springs, when you drop it, the rear end looks dropped, but the front end doesnt... unless you cut it

and yes...

Yeah I dunno once I get it all back together I'll check to see how I like the ride height. I think the 2 inch drop on 18's is going to be nice, but the LS motor is lighter then the KA so until I get the bumper on I will never know.

then the ride height will be even higher up front...it'll look like your're launching when your're actually staying still

The biggest issue in regards to lowering springs is the actual suspension travel. Outside of custom dampers that can handle any real lowering, you risk blowing shocks at any given speed bump or road imperfection at the wrong speed. As far as the ride itself, most reputable manufacturers offer different valving and spring rates. People that bag on coils rarely know how to adjust them properly to begin with, or dont know what options suit them best.If you honestly know what you want and can accept the compromises to get what you need, no spring and shock package can compare to a comprehensive coilover set. At any price.Thats my 2 cents. I gotta blow it up.

Adrian preaches the gospel

Ideal spring rates for you sounds to be about 7/5 or 6/4

Quality of entry level coilovers are pretty good these days, so I'd get coilovers. I have coilovers with 8/6kg on mine and I love them. There's no way I will get springs and shocks.
