Ok, so I just got my new coilovers (EMotor USA) installed on my 92 coupe. My first time with coilovers. I was careful to measure them when they went on and made sure they were set to the same height. When I set the car on the ground, the front right (passenger) side sat about an inch higher. Bummer.

I have gone back and checked and double checked everything. Camber plates are set identical. The springs are set to the same preload and are the exact same length. Both sides measure exactly the same length on the spring height. When measuring from the mounting plate to the spindle bolts or spring mounts, they are exactly the same from side to side. Tire pressures are identical. No, the car has never been in an accident.

Am I missing something? Or should I just lower the passenger side, forget about the two sides not being "equal", and move on to something else? Theoretically should both sides be identical, or is it common for them to have 1/2 - 1 inch of variance? I just didn't want to go forward with something that would be unsafe or damage the car.

Any help you could throw a brother would be great.

Thanks for the replies. And yes I forgot to mention that I already de-sh****d the car. Measurements have been taken in my driveway wich is pretty level, but I'll find a more dead level spot to measure from.

Right on, the Emotors were the cheapest coilover set I could find. I couldn't find any reviews of them so I decided to give them a try. For only $400 shipped and given the fact that my stock setup was shot, I figured I had nothing to lose.

Will post pics and a review once they are dialed in.

Since I have no idea what these EMOTOR Coilovers are I will say this..

After XXX,XXX amount of miles the chassis will flex and not be completely true torsionally. You may have one side that sit's uneven from the other due to this twisting on the yaw axis, it's normal.

With that said most coilover design is the same. As long as preload of the springs and the dampning of the shock are equal it matters little that the mount locations are slightly off as long as the car sits level.

However anyone getting coilovers SHOULD corner balance the car with the driver in the driver's seat for optimum effeciency of the coilover because of this chassis flex.

Class dismissed.

^^true story...

I had mine corner balanced at Schumacher Racing on Indy car scales...it was kinda cool

cars are heavier at certain parts of the car as well...USDM cars require different setups than JDM cars because of the RHD as opposed to LHD...

Did you try adjusting the collar that changes the ride height? You should be able to screw it up or down and chenge the height make sure you have to count the threads and put the coils all at trhe same height. If your pre-load is the same then it probaly just the collar off by a couple of threads.

had the same problem with my s14...turned out that the bushings on one side was more worn than the other. For me a set of subframe spacers fixed the problem.

He said that he measured them prior to installation and they were the same height. Plus I say f*ck counting threads. the best thing to do is slide under the car and measure the distance from one static point to the floor on each side (usually the lower control arm).

Ok, so I re-checked the preload on the rears and found it to be set much higher than the front. So I backed off the pre-load on the rears to more closely match the front. (Spring rates are 8 and 6 kg.) Then I re-leveled the rear and the front was much closer to level. Lowered front passenger a bit and called it a day.

Went for a test drive and it rides like a cement mixer. Maybe I am used to my clapped-out stock squish and this is my first ride on coilovers? Should they be this rough? Damper or preload problem?

It also seems to be bottoming out too easy. Right now i'm running about two fingers of gap between fender and tires. Would post a pic but its too dark now.

Any ideas/suggestions?
