I didn't see this all together in one thread anywhere so I thought I would post the results of my recent research on coilover spring rates:

Edit: These are all for the S13All rates are listed in kg/mm and in the order of F/R:

Apex-i N1 Pro: 8/6 with 46mm shock pistonN1 V-Type: 8/6 with 40mm shock pistonWorld Sport: 6.5/4

Tein FLEX: 5/4 EDFC* CompatibleSS: 6/6 EDFC* CompatibleHA: 6/5 Front wheel offset < 38mm on 6.5 inch wheelHE: 8/6 Front wheel offset < 38mm on 6.5 inch wheelRA:10/8RE:10/8 Adds full length adjustability to RARS:10/8 Seperatly adjustable rebound/compression damping

*Electronic Damping Force Controller

JIC Magic FLT-A2: 8/6 40mm shock piston

That's all that i have for now. I hope it is helpful in some way.

Matt

When purchasing coilovers, you can specify your spring rate. That's probably why nobody talks about it.

Yea...I thought the apex'i n1's you HAD to specify springrate when you bought them, but i could be wrong. As far as some of the other brands, i asked phase2 how much it would be to get different springrates besides the 8/6 that FLTA2's come with stock and its an extra $100 for springrate change.

That's crap. When you initially purchase them, they can be ordered w/ any spring rates for no additional charge. If they are telling you that, go somewhere else. You can even order custom Jics w/ the z32 lower shock mounts in the rear for free. If you want more springs, then of course it'll cost you.

plus, in some coilovers, the spring-rate is adjustable via a tension spring...hehe.

Hey Dori...Where else would be a good place to get them from. Phase2 seems to be a reputable shop w/ good prices ($1595 for FLTA2's) but then again gotta add that $100 :(

Spring rates won't affect your ride nearly as much as dampening. For example, a Tein HA and a Tein RA both on a WRX and with the same spring rates...the Tein RA was so much rougher (on low settings while the HA was on high settings) it's not even funny.

Anyway, if you are talking about Jics, then the 'stock' springs should be fine.

Get a list of authorized Jic dealers and write them ALL an email. That's what I do to get the best prices/service.

Sounds good to me. I'll give that a try.
