Hey guys, first off I apologize if I'm asking a dumb question, I'm not as much of a gear head as most of you. So I'm trying to learn.

I saw on the board awhile back a good recommendation for a set of coilovers that lower the M just a little. I think it was .75" lower rear and 1" lower front with the set recommended.

Does anyone know what set this was? And is this all I need? I know to install them it's a lengthy process, but will the new coil set be the only thing I need regarding parts?

Thanks for any info.

I have a '13 M56xS

Welcome to the forum. Coilovers have the ability to adjust to virtually any height you want. For AWD coils there are BC racing or Scale Suspension.

The height range you specify sounds more like lowering springs...for AWD I only know of RS-R springs but those have to be purchased from Japan...

Hopefully this helps.

Yes lowering springs.

I'd love a good recommend on lowering springs.

There's a member here who installed Eibach springs on his AWD M37 with no issues.

Eibach claims 1.2" in the front, 0.8" in the back

Cool thanks for the info.

I'd love to get the details on exactly which ones, I'll keep looking. If anyone knows, shoot me a link. I would appreciate it.

I bought these couple of weeks ago. I haven't installed them yet, but I have done research and it should be the right one. I even checked the Eibach website. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eibach-6398-140 ... 2749.l2649

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I likely will buy a set too soon. I wished the drop was the other way around... more in front. It looks like my car would be more level or even put IF he drop was more in back and not in front. Currently the gap above the back wheels is more than front. So I'm a little worried this might compound the issue. I guess it's a small difference so it might not matter. I might just go for it.

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm, my car has more of a gap in front than the rear. I should install them soon if I don't get too lazy. It should be fine on our cars, the drop isn't that much. Can't wait to see how it looks.

These concerns and my experience with drop-springs are exactly why I suggest a set of adjustable coilovers instead. I ran drop-springs on my last car and hated that I could not fine tune the height (drop) & the dampening. In my case the spring set ended up being too soft in the rear and would sag with rear passengers or a trunk full of groceries. With adjustable coilovers you can set them to the height you want, and take off and box up the old struts/springs without having to modify them. In most cases you can select the spring rate as well to keep them from being too stiff.

Just something else to consider when making the decision between the two.

I'm AWD on Eibachs...
Been talking to SCALE though, I see a coilover purchase in my near future.

I'm AWD as well and I am happy with my Scale Suspension coilovers. The ride hasn't been harsh or bumpy at all, no complaints from any of my passengers. Just be forewarned about Scale's customer service, or maybe lack of.... Communication was great until they received my payment, they didn't really have much to say until near the promised ship date.

Just be sure to check inspect everything once you receive it. I noticed right away after I opened the packaging that they sent me the wrong rear top hats. It was how they handled the next step that bothers me. They provided a couple of options, and I opted to have them send me the correct rear top hats by the end of the business day that they offered to ship out the correct part with overnight shipping on their dime. The part wasn't shipped until a week later sent ground shipping of course.

Ouch. I got my BC's + Swift Springs from Circuit Motorsports without issue. Even with the custom springs it took only 5 business days to ship. I'm happy with them.

Good point Debonair, I'm weighing this too. I might do some more research and then decide. I just have kids in the car usually so they won't complain about ride quality. : )

I'm guessing with the 1.2" and 0.8" drop the ride quality will still be pretty good. When i corner sometimes now and hit uneven road I can be sent bouncing all over the place. I blew by a guy the other day on a curve and hit some slight rises in the road and I was almost embarrassed at how much I bounced around. I know from behind it looked like I was floating all over the place.

I'm considering adding myself to the sway bar group buy too.

Either way, the drop will make my M look waaaaaaaay sportier just on appearance.

I'm excited to put my BC coilovers on. I did
Bilstein/eibach on my 928. Hated them with a passion, after they settled they were and so are amazing. If the BC'S are close I'll be happy as hell.

On BC'S website they will not give any customer service if purchased from another veneer which I don't like cuz is still there equipment.

Correction from what Don said, those RS-R springs for the AWD can be purchased here in the states from Evasive Motorsports in California, I've been looking at them as well and there only about $300.

I also have a question if anyone can answer.
If I install lowering springs would I have to change the shocks as well or will the stock shocks work well without being too bouncy or having a bad ride quality?

I'm my experience the stock struts will work. BUT because they are being run at a different height and travel with drop springs then they are intended they typically don't last long. So most people install new afteramrket struts with drop springs. This of course brings the price even closer to adjustable coilover prices.

Others may have different experiences.

highly recommend looking at all options for coilovers and not just BC... Google "BC Coilover clunk" and you will see why

When installed right and preload is done right.you will never ever get as clunk noise.having clunk issues is caused by horrible mechanic who don't know anything about coilovers.

I think we already established that none of the Y51 BC users (here on Nico) have clunk issues. I certainly don't.

Well I may be the only one to chime in with Megan coils (Cheaper BCs)

If used make sure you disassemble, clean, grease, and rebuild them. That solves like 50% of noise issues.
Most people do springs because you use the stock top hats and that pretty much makes things silent.

Clunking noises are a direct result of something not being grease (bearings) or something loose (that top nut on all coils)

Good quality stuff results in great performance but great maintenance and attention will make any product work well.

Had my megans with 8K and 10K springs for a good 20k and just did a re-grease on em. They're driving prefect. Only issue at had at 1st was metal to metal squeaking of the top hat and solves that by making rubber toppers out of 1cm thin sheets of industrial rubber.

I love the look of the SCALE suspension (blue..mmmmmm) but ya'll scaring me. I rather pay more for companies with good customer service than pay less, even if the product is okay, and deal with BS like that.

I wont be getting my suspension until next year probably, whenever my stock stuff starts showing that it's done. I ran BC's before so it's either those or SCALE.

To be fair; their service and question answering has been really good for me. I'll see how it is after I get my stuff. I'm planning a full write of the install, SCALE product and the their service.

I hope Scale gets their act together and actually sends you the correct kit the first time around. Myself and two other people that have done business with Scale have had issues with the original set they sent initially.
