i looking at getting a set of coilovers for an s14 i just bought. I cant really decide which kind i want, but ive been kind of leaning towards the greddy type s. I know though that i dont want something that is really wide spread like the megans have become, and im looking at about 1700 or less. Any body have some advice or experiences with perticular brands of coilovers.

Check the wheel/tire forum for the coilover threads.

IMHO, don't bother with coilovers unless it is a track vehicle that you don't use on the street.

not entirely true... theres different rates and settings for different uses..

to the OP, determine what you'll be using you s14 more often for...

for example, if its gonna be a daily street car, look for coilovers that offer spring rates of like 7/5kg or something around that...

^ ^ ^ That is why I prefaced my post with IMHO. I currently have 8/6 Silkroad coilovers, with 6/5 sprint springs and they still blow donkey balls for daily duty. That is why I am exchanging them for Koni yellows & spring setup.

I'm not talking out my *** here, just from personal experience.

I would go with coils if it is also an asthetic mod for you as well, i.e. like your car nice and low, but get very soft rates for just street use, like Adrian said.

Also, not to jack but, Sip what are you gonna do with your coils at that point, sounds like what I would want to run.

really? that bad huh...

I love my coilovers, and ask anyone thats ridden in them (my car), its pretty smooth imho. Sure, potholes suck asss, but it'll still suck asss with lowering springs too.

My cousin's megans have the exact same spring rates as mine, but were boucy like crazy due to the dampers...

I'm putting them up for sale. They have under 5000 miles for sure.

Yeah, they are perfect on the highway. But I live in the city, and Canadian roads blow. I bought Silkroads because they are supposed to be one of the smoothest riding coilovers for $1500. I have come to the conclusion that the dampers in ALL coilovers are not as good as the performace struts like koni yellows, KYB AGX, or Tokico illumina's.

Maybe I'm just a puss, that I expect a street car to be somewhat comfortable to drive. I don't know how you guys put up with that, because every other coilover I've driven on are worst than mine.

lived on KTS coilovers for 2 years or so. they were ok. on smooth roads they were great, on bumpy roads, they got a little jarring. whenever i get another s14, its getting Tein flex coilovers. don't kid yourself about making your street car a track car as well, even if you do track it, 95% of the driving will still be on the street so get something you can live with.honestly, my friend's setup is eibach pro-kit springs with tokico d-spec struts and tein pillow-ball mounts all around and it is a damn good street setup.

Too bad they don't make them for the S13(tokico illuminas nor D-spec)
