Hey, I'm looking for some quality coilovers for my 89 240sx (None of that ebay bull). I would like to spend around 2k but will go over if needed. I don't plan on doing any hardcore stuff just maby a few track visits a year and a couple drift sessions with my buddies. I need something that kinda has some versibility cause It will be an everyday driver too. Unfortinatly I am pretty sure that you won't be able to get all of these benifits from one set of coilovers so could you just tell me the benifits of the different brands. Thanks ;)

Go to the suspension forums, some guy just asked the same question there and they listed all the good options. Not trying to be a d!ck :)

i have Buddy club suspention. it is technicaly a race suspention but if u dont mind a buppy ride its realy nice. i've drivin in 240s that have tein suspention and the buddy club coil overs are a lot stiffer. depending were you live the pric should be around 2000 instaled.

Thanks, Ya kinda srry bout that I just registered here, I'll check out the suspention forms. I also heard that Tein's were really stiff but I really don't mind how stiff it is if I get the performance I want, so the buddy club's are sounding good so far.

It all depends on the spring rate, shock dampening settings, and other factors..when determining stiffness.

You seem like the type of driver that doesn't do track too much, but only occasionally. You probably wouldn't want a full fledged Race Coilover design.

I suggest a coilover such as Tanabe SUSTEC SS TYPE II coilover. Its a race coilover but has dampening adjustability. It comes with pretty damn good spring rates too. 8KG/6KG (F/R).

If you look at other street coilover set ups, like TEIN SS, their spring rates are like 6/6. Not that bad.

But the good thing about these is that these are less expensive (Retail for $1,200. But you can get them for $1070 shipped)..

Good luck with your decision.

dude for 2k you can get most of the coilovers out there, from Kei Office's XR's or GP Sports GR-6's or any of the Tein coilovers the JIC's and more. Here's the rundown I've got from personal experience and from friends.

JIC's FLT-A2 blow easily and cannot be rebuilt statesideCusco excellent build quality and reputation, as far as i know can't be rebuilt stateside eitherZeal (any model) used by teams on JGTC pricey but great coils. can be rebuilt with a typical 3 day turn aroundTein HA/HE excellent value, good bang for the buck, rebuilt in ~2 weeks statesideApexi N1 excellent coils but can't be rebuilt stateside and mui stiffKei Office XR backed by the name of Dori King, can you really go wrong? Lots of adjustable settings but you're paying a premium for his name. Not rebuildable stateside as far as I know.GP Sports GR-6 they roll off the same assembly line as the Kei Office and Silk Roads but have different levels of adjustability and different look on the rest of the unit aside from the main shock unit. Way stiff but no flex when you tackle turns. Not stateside rebuildable as far as I know.

It sounds like your car is daily driven. In that case, you might want to consider some of the more mild coilovers, like Tein Flex, HA. HEs are really stiff. My brother's stock suspension FD is about as much roughness I can stand. I drove a 240 w/ Tein SS and it was stiff, but it felt really solid. I say a bargain at $1k. Why pay $2k to get something super stiff that you will only use a couple times a year, like you said?
