Hey guys,

My front tires show significant wear on the inner side. I went to an alignment shop here and they said that the alignment was correct but the problem really is that the front springs are too weak and the wheels are a little bit inclined so that there is more friction from the inner side of the tires. When you look at the wheels they do seem to be just a little bit inclined but what really is noticable is that the rear of the car is definitely higher than the front. It would almost seem like the front springs are much weaker than the rears. My question - is this a common problem and that front springs need to be replaced every once in a while?

The car is set up to be lower in the front than the rear. Very unlikely that the front springs are worn out. Camber is not adjustable, so there is a limited amount of aligning that can be done. Some tires are less tolerant of the large amount of negative camber the Q uses to improve it's handling. You might try a bit more toe in, which is adjustable. Worn control arms could be a factor too.

Toe-in is the pointing of the tires with respect to centerline of the vehicle. Usually tires are angled slightly toward the center of the road. I would suspect the camber is off, but the alignment shop should have caught either one. Like 911/q45 said, upper links not adjustable. Did you get a print-out? Values? Park the car on a flat surface, bounce it a bit and measure the tops of the fender arches to the ground.
