A lot of people remove the valley cover to let some of the heat escape. Just FYI, I've seen splitfires new on Ebay for around $450 USD, not $700.

Could you identify the point of failure on the busted coils?

Look for the coil debate thread, there is a fix for this involving a coating solution of flexane 94 that more than likely will save you some money and give your old coil packs life again.

I'm guess you've ruled out Spark plugs? If you're mechanically inclined you can go with the LS1 coils, you've got an ecu that can control them. Check Supra forums as a few of those guys use them.

RB coils having problems? No way.

First off check to make sure your gap is low enough. Most guys here run in the low 20s.

Next I'm shocked you can't find a set of used stockers for less than that. (Shameless plug) I just had my set up on ebay for like $100 or so.

Finally if you decide to go the LSx coil route. I STRONGLY suggest against the LS1s. Go with the LS2/LS7 coils much more spark energy.

Just curious have you actually used the LS1 coils? I was going to go that route years ago but didn't because my coils are fine up to 24psi. During my research I saw quite a few Supra using them. Any sizable increase in HP going with LS2's vs LS1's?

I don't have LS1s because I don't want them. No sense in going through all the work to put in LS1s when it is the exact same amount of work for LS2s and they have considerably more spark energy. Megasquirt guys did some tests and this is what they found:
Megasquirt Sequencer Coil Website wrote:These LS2 coils are incredible. Even compared to the LS1 coil, these are just crushers! On the LS1 coil there is around 40 milliamps of peak secondary current with 5 milliseconds of dwell time. On the LS2/truck coil (AC Delco D585), there is 120 milliamps!

Have you ever had any probs with the wiring in the car?

If there is a cross in the coil wires it will continuously charge the coil which gets it hot and cracks it.........

Just for reference, I run 1.8 bar over 600hp and don't break up on stock coils.

I had issues with my coils when I first did the swap and I switched to the buick grand national waste spark setup - spent around $125 for the coil pack and plug wires - i love it and have had no issues - here is a link to a write up on it if you are interested: zerothread?id=219934

i like the ls2/ls7 coil pack option for the simple fact that you r getting rid of that ugly igniter.
