Hello, is it okay to use coil packs from a 1996 Q45t on a 1992 Q45? I noticed that the coil pack plugs won't fit exactly but with some trimming on the edges on the coil packs itself, it fit. Is there anything I should be concerned about? I haven't put them in, I just tried one. Please advise before I install them all. Thanks!

Who knows , why would someone go to the labor bother to find out?

Since the coil failure rate is so tiny. The newer the coils the greater the probability of cost cutting was a Nissan land mark.

The 96 is an odd ball because there is no cover mounted ignitor filled with transistors to drive the coils.............on 96 the ecu has the ignitor assembly integrated inside.

Might be worth checking part numbers to see if the 94-94 coils are interchangable with the 90-93s. werepe, do you have a confirmed coil failure? Keep in mind that the coil boots are replaceable and inexpesive.

The coil is actually two different items mated [screwed] together and the extension to the spark plug is more likely the source of a failure due to getting submerged in engine oil from leaky valve cover seals/inserts.

Unlike the 1997 and later coils which fail when the moon changes phase, the early units were beyond ROBUST.

Why do you think you need new coils? Often it is the connector and harness that become intermittent from water/moisture getting under protective cover.

I didn't really think I needed one. I had access to a very clean, low mileage '96 Q45t. I just wanted to swap the coil packs with mine since it had a low mileage. I actually went thru the labor to discover it wasn't an exact match with mine. I only wanted to put newer coil packs. After reading from you guys, it's not necessary and unworthy of the tedious work, nopt to even mention the mismatch. Thanks a million guys...all of you are the best! You guys make people like myself hang on tightly to our Qs! If not for you guys, I'd have junked my Q long ago but thanks to tips from many experienced guys here, I'm able to do so many things by myself thus saving big bucks. 'THANK YOU' to all of you that always go the extra distance to render some assistance on this forum.
