Hello everyone...

Can someone tell me where i can purchase replacement coil packs for my 2001 I30? The local parts houses near me wants to charge ($40.00ea. x 6) which comes out to $240.00 before taxes..You see what I'm getting at. Its way too expensive as for my opinion.

I'm open for suggestions...

Thx.Ray

That's a very reasonable price for an aftermarket Ignition Coil, provided it is good quality. OEM coil has an MSRP of $104 and even discounted part from infinitipartsUSA.com is $74. Most after-marker coils cost @ $70.

You are absolutely right. However, isolating an offending coil may take a long time, unless a cylinder-specific fault code has been generated. Hence, dealerships and most shops replace them by the set.

plus...it is a simple fix that can be done yourself. if it does happen to be a ignition coil or two, they are simple to remove and install. and of course, look at your spark plugs. even the rear bank is simple to access, unlike some other vehicles...

Is your check engine light on?

If you can turn a wrench then you can change out a coil.

Have 'Auto-zone' or some other chain store read the codes for you, they should be able to tell you if it is a specific cylinder.

p0301 through p0306 are misfire codes for cylinders 1-6.

It is easy to do, and if you suspect the coil, I'd suggest you swap out 2 adjacent coils and wait for the misfire to happen again. Have the codes read, and if the misfire 'follows' the code then you can be fairly sure that the coil is the problem. I'd also replace the sparkplugs while you are at it, unless it's been recently done with premium plugs. NGK Laser Iridium (#7994).
